Sustainability as a topic of the time
“Sustainability is the topic of this time. The climate crisis, the associated effects on the economy, the increasingly important issue of personnel and also building and event technology are becoming increasingly important in this context Significance. For more than ten years we have been discussing the sustainable events, the so-called “Green Meetings“, and have – to a large extent – implemented them. We have always opted for voluntary work, i.e. largely without legal requirements. One more, the other less. New legal requirements force us and our customers today, however rethink. What was previously voluntary is now being replaced by a must – and thus a compulsion. This affects our customers and our conference guests, who are increasingly demanding it” – this is the assessment of degefest chairman Jörn Raith on this year’s main theme of the specialist days.
Against this background and at the special request of its members, degefest, the German trade association for the congress and seminar industry, is devoting itself to the topic of sustainability and the associated effects on our event industry at this year's symposium. How can sustainability in our Company integrated and systematically managed? How does a company sustained and sustainable?
Implement stakeholder requirements
This includes understanding and Implementation the demands of stakeholders and interest groups (e.g. legislators, customers, internal requirements, etc.). In addition to the "classic" elements such as waste management, travel arrangements and criteria for the event location itself, this also includes catering and gastronomy, procurement, Communication and social aspects. The resulting requirements characterize the program of the 2023 specialist days
In accordance with the wishes of the members, the specialist days 2023, which will take place from June 1th to June 5th, 1 in the TurmQuartier of the Sparkasse Pforzheim/Calw, will be presented in a new format. The program starts with the annual general meeting on June 6.06.2023, 1 at noon and ends on June 5.06.2023, 1 in the late afternoon. The program is thus compressed to 6.06.2023 days and rounded off by an evening event. As in previous years, the specialist day will be supplemented by a specialist exhibition and will offer both keynotes and workshop formats. The event is aimed at members of degefest, but is also open to anyone interested in the topic and the work of the association.
The focus of the symposium: How do I set up my company sustainably in the future?
Venues today have far more than one area of responsibility to manage. To the Planning, implementation and monitoring of one's own corporate strategy, ecological and social responsibility has also increased in recent years. It is not only political actors who are calling on companies to protect our environment, the guests of the event venues are also increasingly expecting this. On the one hand, companies are exposed to pressure from guests and, on the other hand, to political pressure, for example from stakeholders.
This means that our event venues have to act. Because if you don't focus on sustainable management these days, you lose fast connecting to the competition. But what does sustainability actually mean and how is it defined whether a company operates sustainably or not? Reason enough for the degefest trade association to deal more intensively with these important topics, which also affect countless degefest members, at the trade days. “The events industry is one of the most important economic sectors in Germany. In order for this to remain so, we must make our contribution to sustainable management. At our symposia, we want to work together with our members Solutions for the Industry work out" says Jörn Raith, Chairman of the Board of Management. Louisa Schlang will moderate the program in Pforzheim for the first time. Louisa Schlang has the last young moderator competition ("Nawumo", advertised by the Blach Report and the Institute for Communication) for herself decide.
Unfulfilled sustainability promises
degefest association lawyer Martin Leber takes care of the first day of the event with his Lecture "Failed to keep promises of sustainability as a defect of an event" to ensure that the participants are informed about the consequences of not keeping advertising promises.
These can constitute a misleading commercial activity. To date, there has been no case law specifically on “sustainability”. Since the Term is also not defined by law, require corresponding advertising statements klare and transparent information from the advertiser himself as to what is meant by this in the individual case. The lawyer considers this delicate topic in a skillfully practical way.
Program on 16.06.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX
At the start, the chairman Jörn Raith and the conference venue inspector Gerhard Hötger open the second day of the event with a "Pecha Kucha" on the subject of sustainability. The subsequent, official keynote at the degefest symposium will be Dr. Frank Lennings, Head of the Department of Corporate Excellence at ifaa – Institute for Applied Work Science e. V. – Düsseldorf with the title “Managing Sustainability – What, Why, How?”.
Subsidies and DEHOGA
Subsidy expert Elke Wörner, who has recently been offering degefest members a free initial consultation, will report on current subsidy options, especially against the background of sustainable renovations and new acquisitions. The degefest cooperates closely with the DEHOGA state association in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Its President Patrick Rothkopf, who is also Chairman of the new Dehoga Federal Committee for Energy, Environment and sustainability, will report in his lecture “Sustainability for hosts – where do we stand and where do we want/should/must we go” that also with a view to the ever new climate policy obligations of companies and the new ones associated with them Costs on the proportionality and cost-effectiveness of the Measures must be looked at. This applies to concepts for reducing food waste as well as to the introduction of reusable systems. After an extensive lunch break, during which the participants can also visit the accompanying specialist exhibition in the foyer, the Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board, Prof. Dr. Lothar Winnen, presenting the new Trend Analysis 2023, which he is very up to date and together with his colleague Prof. Dr. Kim Werner currently prepared.
Keep an eye on current trends
The degefest trend analyzes have now firmly established themselves as an economic barometer in the industry and are constantly being further developed. For this purpose, the catalog of questions is updated annually with current issues. The afternoon of the second day is dedicated to different workshop topics. Christian Oblasser and Martina Riediger from triasconsulting, Berlin address the topic of "stakeholder management in the context of sustainability".
Objective an initial idea of the necessity and implementation of successful stakeholder management is to be conveyed to the participants. In the workshop, Oblasser and Riediger will jointly introduce the participants to strategic work in stakeholder management. At the same time, Prof. Dr. Gabriel Laies, new member of the degefest Scientific Advisory Board, the workshop entitled “Nudging! Or: what guests have always wanted to do but never dared to do". Many say the climate is important to you and vegetarian food actually tastes great and they don't like wasting food at all - but in reality your guests like to stand in line at the entrecôte at the buffet and fill their plates. prof Dr. In this workshop, Laeis tries to remedy the situation.
