The joint project GEWINN (stands for gender. Knowledge. Computer science. Network), in which the Heilbronn University and the University of Siegen, among others, are involved, aims to make research on gender and computer science usable in practice to attract female young professionals in to support IT on its way to top positions. It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
The focus is on research transfer: scientific gender knowledge should be developed in a dialogue between Company and science are further developed, processed and made practical for the implementation.
More women in the IT
With the conscious involvement of female young professionals and young scientists, “GEWINN” pursues a double strategy of anchoring gender issues in IT and empowering young women in IT. The joint project thus makes a contribution to more equal opportunities and to the diversity-sensitive shaping of digital change.
For this purpose, GEWINN will hold a conference on September 28, 2018 in Hamburg on the topic "Women in the IT industry: New ways in HR management". The following questions are addressed:
- Which gender competence do personnel managers need?
- What is important to keep women in IT?
- What opportunities does digitization offer for gender-equitable personnel work?
- What does the gender-appropriate recruitment of new employees look like?
- Are there special pitfalls in the IT industry? Do personnel managers in IT companies have gender competence?
- Is the company presentation gender-appropriate?
- Are there innovative workplace concepts with regard to working hours, home office and a pleasant working environment?
Final presentation / Keynote
Part of this conference will also include my keynote on the topic “Shortage of skilled workers homemade? Blind spots in personnel selection ”, which I will hold at the end of the event.
Because companies, business associations and politics complain about a shortage of skilled workers - especially in the IT industry. A recent study by Ernst and Young, the Global Leadership Forecast 2018, shows that more than 1.000 CEOs around the world see their biggest challenge in developing new executives and recruiting needed talent.
Thus, the doors for qualified applicants should actually be wide open, but unfortunately the reality is often different: companies frighten with cumbersome application processes and exaggerated qualification expectations, do not want to invest in the training of their employees, are inflexible at work and place of work, Do not focus job advertisements on the right target group or even discriminate against entire application groups such as women or job seekers with a migration background.
Course of the lecture
At the same time, many companies have no idea how much this can damage their corporate brand. After all, what goes wrong in the application process quickly spreads through social media, on blogs and also on employer rating platforms, thus ruining the company's reputation among the coveted professionals.
The short presentation will give examples and in the subsequent panel discussion we want to talk about how this problem can be prevented in time. Because companies today can afford such blind spots less and less.
