OPINION! HRWeb Managing Director Eva Selan: "Authors should use users as a benchmark"

The HRweb wants Austria's interactive Online-Platform for HR managers, HR developers, managing directors and all people who work on HR-Topics are interested. The numbers after the first few months look good: so far 15 specialist and guest authors, 175 articles and more than 20.000 page views in the first two months. An interview with managing director Eva Selan about the goals of the new portal, the opportunities of online media and the Significance of interaction.

Eva Selan was editor-in-chief of the magazine Training for several years and has now set up her own HRweb. She studied in Vienna, Strasbourg (France), San Francisco (USA). After completing her master's degree, she gained experience in the human resource sector, building a second track in the Further Training (Master's level), supplemented her experience with an extra-occupational Study (MSc Human Resource Management and Organizational Development) and bundles the experience as editor-in-chief of the magazine TRAiNiNG.

Ms Selan, why need another HR online portal?

The Future the media landscape is mine Opinions to clear in the online medium. It corresponds better to fast-moving times than a print medium and can react much more directly to the reader. So it's more challenging and exciting.

What are the differences between print and online?

I can't generally speak for print, daily newspapers, for example, follow a completely different pattern and also have a different type of mandate. Working in print means a lot to me Fun made and the research in depth with a ten-page Article as a result, that is only possible in print.

Online, the contributions must be much shorter, more concise formulated - the basic access to writing a contribution is completely different.

Everywhere the death of print media is evoked. How do you see that?

Of course, print is still justified and will continue to have its target group in the years to come. But especially those Boy Readers prefer online offers - and they clearly show this with their user behavior.

What do you prefer - print or online?

I can say for myself: it is easier to write for a periodical print medium. It's more exciting for online! Simply transferring articles for print to online does little Sinn.

So you reject second-hand use of print texts in the online area?

Some providers are excellent at presenting some print content online or offering completely new content online that is not available in print. Simply copying a print article into the online medium would be completely amusing Objective miss.

All my current print articles have been thoroughly reworked and made online before you went online on HRweb. It is important to me that our authors take the reading behavior of our online users as a benchmark.

They call themselves interactively. Often this is just a fig leaf: How much interaction is there with you?

Web 2.0 also means “participatory web”. This Idea we also pick this up in HRweb and offer the opportunity to reply to articles, to contribute your own experiences, Ask to ask, etc. What we don't attach importance to is that readers declare themselves as followers, friends, etc. directly on HRweb.

For this, we use social media channels to pick up our readers where they like to stay and decide for themselves what you like and what not! As an online medium you can expect this form of interaction from us!

How are you in the social media area?

We are represented on different platforms: Facebook, Twitter, MisterWong and more will follow. Newsletter and RSS are self-evident. Readers can then find out about current developments on the channel of their choice.

What do you think to do better than others?

Of course, the HR scene has also lived well without HRweb so far. With HRweb, however, it will be easier to keep up-to-date with interesting and controversial HR topics. New articles are published online every day.

And who writes it?

The information comes directly from specialist authors who deal intensively with HR topics and on the needs of the target group by replying directly to comments and questions on hrweb.at.
