The Betahaus in Berlin-Kreuzberg is one of the most famous coworking spaces. Time for a more detailed text about the working atmosphere and suitability for work - and of course a few pictures.
The suggestion of commentator Nachtauge12 on the Article from ZEIT ONLINE I like to record: He wanted more pictures. And I'll send you another text. This time to the Betahaus, the first of the three co-working places I've tested.
The first impression is consistently positive: Lots of nice, Boy People, friendly employees, chic design: white, simple, hip but not intrusive. A nice cafe with a pleasant atmosphere invites you to linger. The old, broken-down freight elevator is funny to get up to the third floor.
Also the atmosphere in the big ones workrooms Hallen is pleasant: quiet, friendly, bright. Not all tables are occupied. What I find positive: It dominate klare, light colors, white, earthy and pastel tones. Nonetheless act the rooms are not cold, but cozy, which is probably due to the lovingly selected accessories such as curtains and lamps.
Nevertheless, I personally find the workplaces too bare: I think of my mountains of paper in the Office and miss storage space right next to the desk Apparently, it is mainly people who work here who Internet have to do and do not need any printed material for research. Unfortunately, it's different for me.
Equipped with a desk, Internet and printer, where everyone can freely print, but should not overdo it - the so-called fairuse principle. However, if, as I had imagined, only passing by on a daily basis, apart from a chair and a desk, which I have to leave in the evening, I have no rights and no cupboard or shelf. I also have to go to office hours.
After all, my “rights” depend on which tariff I choose. One costs between 12 euros a day and 229 euros a month Workplace here. If I want to come from time to time, but more often, I can buy a 12 card in the Flex tariff: I can use that for 12 days of mine Choice come when I want, but get an office key and a cupboard.
I can only leave my things if I take a firm table. This is what some have here who have partly built their complete computer equipment - there are locks to secure it. For valuables you can also rent a locker - which does not really convince me in terms of safety. Allegedly, nothing has gotten away yet.
What strikes me: There are no telephones! No, the answer is, you don't want to be on the phone. Actually logical, because everyone else should not be disturbed. You can also go to a special room to make a call, which is a little more private. By the way, you can also go there if you want to relax by yourself between work – after all…
However, not all day! And that's mine Problem, because as a journalist I make quite a lot of phone calls for research purposes (although not as much as they do Online-Marketer, who now has to give up on various complaints...). The missing phone is my no-go criterion.
And the ergonomics is one thing: Even if the office looks so stylish - with my 1,80 m size, I rely on individually adjustable tables and chairs. However, the chairs are the simplest wooden chairs that seem anything but comfortable to sit in for a long time.
My personal conclusion about the Betahaus: The basic idea, with different People from different Industries Being able to work together flexibly and exchange ideas creatively is really good. As a freelancer for many years, I know the problem that when you work a lot alone, the blanket sometimes falls on you Head falls.
Still, I can't work efficiently here. It's quieter than I expected, but I'm missing key points like ergonomics and the phone. On the other hand, if it were important to me to meet other people, I would rather work in the cafe, which even has its own chef: the WiFi is free there and he Networking-Effect there too.
However, I have already been warned: The cafe is kept deliberately loud - people should just work to rent office space!
