Flexibility is in the Working world asked like never before. But how are young People about when they have to change cities for the job but are in a committed relationship? The current unicensus compact, a study among German students, shows what is important to young professionals.
In order to gain a foothold in the working world and to climb the career ladder, people today need to be flexible as never - spatially, temporally and mentally. The generations, who are now in their 20ers and 30ers, have experienced unlimited freedom:
They moved from Bavaria to Berlin or from Düsseldorf to Dresden to study, and many got to know Europe up close during the Erasmus semester. However, the situation becomes more complicated when the Career with love or even your own Family to be reconciled. So how do German students feel about their careers?
Basically, the readiness for mobility is overwhelming, as a study by the Personaldienstleister univatively under 1.200 German students has found. For 89 percent, despite a fixed relationship, a change of residence is possible.
68 percent, however, make this a very attractive job. The city itself is less important: it plays an important role for just a good third.
That is clearly more important Perspektivethat the partner moves to the new place and finds a job there. More than half (53 percent) see this as a necessary prerequisite for a career-related move. The distance also plays a role. A narrow majority of 53 percent only want to move away from their partner so far that a weekend relationship is possible. 29 percent would like to be even closer and be able to see their partner during the week. 14 percent, on the other hand, do not see a stable relationship as an obstacle to unrestricted mobility: They would also move abroad if it would benefit their career.
Young Professionals know that the dream job is not waiting for them. Who in relation to his Workplace If you make demands, you may have to put up with finding something else somewhere else. They are willing to make compromises for this. Almost half of those surveyed (46 percent) have at least already gained experience with long-distance relationships and know that thanks to digital Communication Let it be guided as easily as never before. Nevertheless, the vast majority do not want to rely on Skype and Easyjet, but at least want to spend time together on weekends.
And what does it look like if the partner has to change work-related? The study draws a very similar picture: A majority of 53 percent would look for a job even in the new city. 39 percent would stay in their current place of residence and accept a long-distance relationship.
Only eight percent see neither relocation nor commuting as an option and would end the relationship. Overall, it shows that German young academics attach great importance to getting a career and relationship under one roof.
