An interview with me in the form of 8 career tips appeared in the current issue of Petra magazine. On Article LEAD digital refers to it, but my statements, which I have been addressed several times, appear in a somewhat wrong light. An opinion.

Is Xing duty?

Under the heading “Xing is mandatory, other networks freestyle” was published on December 12.12.2012, XNUMX on the LEAD website, which belongs to WundV Digital a contribution by Annette Mattgey, who took up my interview in Petra again. In it I am quoted as follows:

What you can do with your own profile in the Internet should be considered, explains Simone Janson, one of the most widely read job bloggers in Germany:…. “You don't have to work night shifts to maintain eight different profiles. Get down to the basics. A good self-portrayal on Xing is mandatory, for internationally oriented jobs also on LinkedIn. Other networks are optional.”

See the statement in context

Well, that's what I said. However, in a certain context: The original statement "Xing is mandatory" was made in an interview for the magazine PETRA and referred to their target group - that is Women in permanent positions in more traditional ones Industries. (I hope I don't fall into the next blunder here).

My colleague Verena Hagedorn just wanted one klare statement which Network the best is and I said that you have to differentiate that according to the target group. For freelancers, the creative scene, etc., completely different requirements apply.

Xing or be prompted?

The Petra target group mentioned tends not to be tech-savvy and therefore simply has none Lustto deal with 5 social networks. Xing is the best way to bring this target group closer to being always on with Facebook, Twitter and her own blog are simply overwhelming.

But that doesn't mean that I consider Xing to be the ultimate wisdom in career planning. And anyone who knows my work knows that too. We have on Best of HR - Berufebilder.de® also published several times on this topic, like this interview, in which Regine Heidorn explains why she prefers Twitter over Xing.

The dead live longer

2011 I have reported that Xing to the Companies counts, the 2015 will not exist anymore and why. And Svenja Hofert has also explained at the end of 2010, why she considers Xing almost dead.

In the meantime, Xing has introduced some crucial improvements and we both have ours Opinions revised. Guest author Martin Salwiczek, on the other hand, has always been of the opinion that Xing is the better tool for the Job Search at a hunt.

It can not be said that Xing is the better social network. Let's ignore my personal experiences: By the way, Twitter has also brought me much more than Xing.

The replica on my contribution by Johannes Lenz

Meanwhile, Johannes Lenz, who also auf Best of HR – Berufebilder.de® already as a guest author of his job search has reported a Quote-Interview about the article published digitally on LEAD:

In the article “Xing is not crucial for a new job” he explains how you can get a new job without Xing but with a lot of passion.

What are your experiences?
