Is Xing duty?

Well, that's what I said. However, in a certain context: The original statement "Xing is mandatory" was made in an interview for the magazine PETRA and referred to their target group - that is Women in permanent positions in more traditional ones Industries. My colleague Verena Hagedorn just wanted one klare statement which Network the best is and I said that you have to differentiate that according to the target group. For freelancers, the creative scene, etc., completely different requirements apply.
Xing or be prompted?

First of all, congratulations on this beautiful contribution - and at the same time it saddens me to see how often things are recently taken out of context by PR people. Unfortunately, it is not the first time that someone tries to distinguish themselves at the expense of others and I personally find that unbearable.
All the better that you cleared up the situation straight away. When you asked whether you need XING - I do because I like it. It doesn't eat a lot of bread, I got to know nice people through it and, especially in a business context, this way is often easier than calling anywhere - and mMn it is simply more serious than Twitter.

Thanks for the great comments. It is just as I say in the article. everything depends on the person: For example, Xing 10 years ago did not bring anything at all at the job: Neither interesting contacts nor suitable information. In fact, I have often felt Xing as too business-like, the information I was given there was too unconcrete and a little detached. It took too much time to discuss this or that topic with people in different groups.It was only Twitter that gave me the opportunity to get to know people more easily and to deepen these contacts in personal exchange. Twitter has also made a big impact on my career. Today, through this detour, Xing is also useful for me to maintain existing contacts. But you already look at our two example: It is different for everyone. It always depends on what you are looking for and whom you meet.
In this respect is simply completely silly to say, this or that network is better suited for job search.

I am a woman and have no facebookbecause it costs me time and nerves. In fact, you have to find the right mix for yourself. From my current application phase, I can draw the (preliminary) conclusion that XING is important.
On the one hand, I found there because of the job exchange some exciting offers where it came to job interviews. On the other hand, I have a well-mixed network, which led me, for example, to one or the other place.
In this respect, I hardly think that it's pure narcissism - I've found my mix of Twitter, XIng, G + and Pinterest and everyone has to think about where they would like to play - without prejudice.
