Sascha Lobo once shaped the attitude towards life of an entire generation with his book "We call it work": The digital bohemia wanted to work freely and self-determinedly. Last week, Lobo indirectly explained the failure of this Idea.
The interview, which Lobo last week in the Frankfurter Rundschau , was actually about a completely different theme:
The platform capitalism of services such as Uber or Airbnb, which Lobo calls, commonly referred to as the sharing economy. But then I simply took off my shoes ...
He attested to the ladies and gentlemen from Silicon Valley, like the British weekly "The Economist", a real asshole problem:
Much of the disruptive force that the Society could advance, will of such Companies perverted into evil and destructive. There is a relentlessness and arrogance that is very, very harmful.
So far, so beautiful. The really interesting thing about this post, however, is something Lobo says elsewhere - and rather indirectly:
For example, he calls for social protection systems to be extended to the self-employed: A minimum wage for the self-employed is conceivable. I can also imagine a certain basic set of social protection for the self-employed, which would then have to be partly covered by the clients.
Now this idea is actually old hat. The Verdi union, for example, has been calling for this for years. This principle has even already been implemented within the framework of artists' social insurance, which is unfortunately only limited to a few professional groups.
Unfortunately, our bureaucracy is apparently not designed for that at all check, which clients have self-employed. For the tax office or social insurance, there are larger companies, preferably with many employees, and there are employees. With everything in between has the bureaucracy Problems, you notice that Term of the bogus self-employed very much clear.
It is not without some irony that now Sascha Lobo as the inventor of the digital bohemia now demands its protection - and that, after we have been vigorously against who have petitioned Leyens compulsory pension plans for the self-employed.
Because with his idea of self-determined work Lobo has - perhaps involuntarily - paved the way for self-exploitation among the young self-employed to be even considered “chic”. And now, like the banks in the financial crisis, he's calling for the state.
The difference is explained by Lobo in the interview itself, thus revealing the dangers of his own Boheme idea.
I as an employee must be able to choose this flexibility. 30 hours working within 48 hours can be an interesting experience. It sounds for me however rather according to the 19. Century, the late Manchester capitalism. This is not the way in which one wants to live his life on a regular basis, and that is, I would think, no matter what work you have. To this extent, flexibilisation is initially a good thing, but it is a great threat to misuse workers as a shifting mass.
To this extent, the idea of digital self-determination was perhaps a bit naive and I congratulate Mr Lobo that he has now arrived in reality.
