women receive less salary as men. A recent survey by Compensation Partner compensation analysts shows how much less. But there are also small exceptions.
After International Women's Day and equal pay day, the issue of gender wage inequality is once again on everyone's lips. On March 31, the second and third readings in the Bundestag on the law to promote the transparency of pay structures took place and it was adopted. So a reason to celebrate?
As with all legislative proposals, this draft was not lacking Criticism, It would not go far enough, the tiger's teeth were pulled. But criticism or not - the fact is that there is an inequality in pay and there is need for action. The new law on equal pay is a first step.
The latest study “Remuneration Monitor 2017” by Compensation Partner provides a current study on the subject. Compensation analysts evaluated 241.987 salary data and checked it for wage inequality. Accordingly, the unadjusted wage gap is over 25 percent. However, this value should be treated with caution.
This means that, for example, department heads and specialists face each other without personnel responsibility. No wonder, then, that there are large salary gaps. But these are always at the expense of women. This is partly due to the fact that there are (still) too few women in leading position gives.
The determination of the "adjusted" pay gap is exciting. To do this, various parameters have to be adjusted in order to achieve the most exact comparability possible. These include, for example, the same professions, the same age, the same people Features etc.
For the data cleansing, the experts of Compensation Partners have chosen their own approach and only analyzed trades where, at the time of the evaluation, there were sufficient men and women's salaries, which were similar in terms of supply and demand. In addition, only employees without personnel responsibilities were considered.
In addition, they formed two different salary classes - one with a yearly income from 30.000 to 35.000 Euro and a second with a salary between 50.000 and 66.000 Euro per year.
The salary difference between men and women in the lower-paid group is 2,1 percent, which is already small in relation to the salary level. The situation for higher earners is quite different. In this group, women receive more than 9 percent less salary, which is of course a lot with higher wages Money can be.
The wage gap for employees with high Income is 20 percent for 29 to 5,1 year olds. It increases continuously with age. For those over 60, it is 9,3 percent.
In the low-paid merit class, the wage gap for the 20 to 29-year-olds is 4,2 percent. It reaches its peak with 4,4 percent at the age of 30 to 39. After that, it falls constantly and is only 60 percent with 0,9 years.
There were surprising results when looking at sectors, because here segments were identified in which women make more money to earn as men. Especially in the lower paid jobs.
These include public administration (-2,9 percent) and the tourism and leisure industry (-6,2 percent). The situation is different in higher-paying professions: with just under 13 percent, advertising and PRIndustry with the largest pay gap, closely followed by healthcare at 12,4 percent.
An analysis of the pay gap for individual occupations is also part of the analysis. Nurses, educators, procurement staff, customer service, software development and internal sales staff were closely examined.
Less surprising: in all occupations, Compensation Partners identified pay gaps to the detriment of women. The largest difference was made by the remuneration analysts with the 6,4 percent of the sales service - the lowest with the customer service with only 2,4 percent.
It doesn't matter how we approach the problem of remuneration. With a few exceptions, one thing is certain: women earn less than men. It may not be more than 20 percent less, but definitely five percent – such a difference is particularly noticeable in better-paid professions clear noticeable.
