My second coworking example from Toronto is a studio community where artists, designers and craftspeople from different Industries work together and develop and implement joint projects. Like the artist Barbara McGivern here.
At 176 John Street in Toronto, authors, web designers, designers, Marketing-Professionals, bookbinders, carpenters, furniture fittings, artists together on four floors. This results in new, creative ones ideas.
The cooperation idea is here from the outset Concept locked in. Corresponding spaces for such meetings are not provided. Instead, the artists meet in their respective studios: Unlike in normal coworking spaces, everyone here works in their own studio, which costs between 700 and 1600 dollars.
On the fourth floor the artist Barbara McGivern and the Vietnamese fashion designer Thien Le work side by side. Barbara is internationally known and works with color and film of real gold and exhibited recently in Dubai. Your studio with the number 506 has it since 1993 here.
Thien Le makes couture fashion to order. And says himself: “The customers can say what they want, but I only hear what I want." And then adds with a cheeky grin: "No one has complained yet."
Thien Le has been working here for 12 years, starting with 20 square meters, then gradually expanding. “It's purely about customer service and word of mouth.” The two pictures show the designer or his studio.
Barbara and Thien met here over 10 years ago and have gradually become friends. Together they then developed the idea, theirs Competencies to put together and make Barbara's artworks as templates for Thien's fashion.
This was made possible through the website Spoonflower.com, where you can upload pictures and order one meter of fabric for 27 dollars. If you want to wear a genuine McGivern artwork, you can now order this from Thien Le.
