Helpers in the office: between WLAN and physical well-being

Test reports often introduce the latest mobile phones and tablets, but in every office there are many other small and large devices that should not be missed.

These include, for example, useful little helpers in dealing with PCs and mobile phones, helpers for Internet, but also devices that are responsible for our physical well-being and thus for our productivity at work. We present 5 of these devices that no office should be without.

1. WLAN stick

A good WLAN stick is essential: it must fast not always necessarily be better, it is much more important to use the existing Internet speed intelligently.

The FRITZ!WLAN Stick AC 430 MU-MIMO, for example, offers such an intelligent function: The WLAN Stick uses the 2,4 or 5 GHz frequency to transmit as required. thanks to the new one Technology Multi-user MIMO routers can also exchange data with multiple devices at the same time. In this way, the capacity in the entire WLAN is better used, especially when several devices are used at the same time. The lower speed of a maximum of 433 MBit/s compared to other WLAN sticks can be gotten over.

2. USB hub

As a blogger, you spend a lot of time with cables. You need to carry a USB cable and an audio cable to connect your iPod and audio devices. You need a USB cable and a charging cable to charge your iPhone. You need a cable to connect your camera and a cable to connect your printer. You need a cable to connect your computer and a cable to connect your laser printer. And then there are all the other cables you might need depending on the devices you own. For all these Problems Is there a Solution: It's called a USB hub.

This USB hub comes into play when you ask yourself again what to do when you have more USB devices than there are USB ports. The chic Hama USB 3.1 hub / card reader including USB-C adapter USB hub solved a constant problem for me: Too many USB devices, especially in the form of external hard drives, with too few connections.

The small device has connections for up to 3 USB devices (e.g. USB memory stick, mouse, keyboard) with the fast USB 3.1 standard, but also for simultaneous reading and writing of SD / microSD memory cards and brings an additional USB-C adapter for devices with USB Type-C interface with.

3. Working with noise canceling headphones when driving a train

Discounts for your success (advertising)!

Train rides are perfect for working - actually. Personally, I even prefer to travel by train rather than fly, especially on routes within Germany. The main reason for this is that I can work relatively comfortably on German railways. If only the passengers weren't there - sometimes at least: Screaming children, business people talking loudly on the phone or club trips with the corresponding alcohol level - everything has already been there. Can noise-canelling headphones help here? And how big is the difference to conventional headphones?

So I was happy that Chal-Tec-GmbH provided me with noise-cancelling headphones from their Mark Auna. These are wireless Bluetooth 4.1 headphones with active noise dampening: According to the company, they are said to dampen up to 85% of annoying background noise such as conversations on the train, but also engine noise from planes, buses or subways. I am excited. The headphones make a good impression: They can be folded flat for space-saving storage when not in use and are supplied with a hard case for safe transport. Comparatively compact with dimensions between 21,5 x 18 cm and 20 x 15,5 cm when folded. Incidentally, the hard case measures 8,5 x 5 x 22,5 cm (WxHxD) and weighs – like the headphones – 200 g, so with hard case and headphones you get 400 g.

Inside the hard case there is space for the headphones and a small pocket for the cables and adapter plugs. A 1,5 m long cable with a 3,5 mm jack output is also included. Since not all devices have one, a 6,3mm jack adapter and a double jack adapter for airplanes are also included. As a result, they work on practically every modern audio device such as iPhone, iPad, smartphone, tablet, computer, DVD player, stereo system or television. An integrated microphone turns the headphones into a fully-fledged hands-free device in conjunction with an iPhone, Android or smartphone. What thrilled me, however, is that I don't even need the tangled cables that threaten to knot at every opportunity in order to be able to use the headphones: The BNC-10 come with the CSR8645 with apt-X, a Bluetooth 4.1-enabled chipset of the latest Generation. With a range of up to 10m, the mobile silencers make contact with all Bluetooth-enabled audio devices and transmit their sound completely wirelessly. Unfortunately, the connection to my PC via Bluetooth does not work. The Bluetooth adapter made available to me by HAMA as a test device can find the headphones under Linux and Windows, but then cannot transfer music. So I suspect the problem is with my PC's sound card.

Meanwhile: Mobile silencers - how realistic is this claim anyway? The headphones are equipped with an active noise cancellation system that users can turn on and off with a simple push of a button on the right ear cup. Incidentally, three small buttons can also be used to control playback devices and telephones. The ear pads have a special task: together with the adjustable bracket, they not only ensure a good fit, but also reduce the noise in a two-ways-Systemthat blocks out ambient noise. 85 percent of the annoying background noise should disappear. In reality, the efficiency actually depends on the volume: If I turn up the volume to the max, conversations from fellow passengers, for example, or train noises have largely disappeared. Very high tones, such as children's noises, also penetrate further, albeit clear more toned down At least the headphones make it easier to disconnect from a stressful environment to work.

The sound, however, is great: the music is full-sounding and pleasant, no excessive tones, noise or beeps interfere with the enjoyment of the music. From this point of view, the Auna headphones are really worth it. The power is supplied by an internal 5V battery, which can be charged not only at the socket, but also via the USB port of a laptop / computer or via a 5V USB charger. That is actually my biggest point of criticism of the system: that another electronic device has to be charged while on the go - in my case, in addition to a cell phone and an external keyboard. I'll soon see myself with a multiple socket on the train ;-) What I find positive, however: I can connect the headphones to my mobile phone next to the Bluetooth keyboard - that saves unnecessary cable clutter - practical. Overall, a practical feature that can help you to work well at the right moment.

5. Bluetooth adapter

A practical little helper, the Hama Bluetooth USB adapter, version 4.0 C2 + EDR, provides a normal PC with the necessary Bluetooth connectivity to enable a connection with a smartphone, headset or keyboard.

Practical here: The mini USB adapter is simply plugged into one of the USB ports on the PC. In addition, two PCs can be directly connected to one another via two dongles.

6. Internet radio: stream music from a mobile phone or tablet

And then there is the music enjoyment in the office: The electronics manufacturer Chaltec offers under the Brand Numan offers various variants of its internet radio. The Numan One and the Numan Mini Two are priced in the same segment. When I tested two devices provided by Chaltec, I wanted to be able to wirelessly connect my cell phone to a speaker/internet radio.

To get straight to the point: the hope of being able to connect both devices and play them in stereo mode or in several rooms at the same time was not fulfilled - one gets the impression that the relevant technology is still in its infancy, because during streaming works quite well on one device, the problems usually only begin with two devices. This is also the case with Numan: The Numan One 2.1. has an appealing design with a retro look and comes in four colors - black, white, mahogany and walnut. Bluetooth, WLAN, Internet radio with a DAB+ function and finally Spotify Connect make wireless listening pleasure possible and enable access to music libraries at home Network as well as on bluetooth-enabled devices. In addition, audio files released in the network can be played using the integrated music player.

There is a large, high-resolution color display, which can be used with a rotary knob on the top, for example selection of the corresponding audio channel can be operated - a handling that I personally found a bit cumbersome. Operation via the supplied remote control and the Spotify Connect app is more convenient, unfortunately you have to have a SpotifyCustomer be. An AUX-IN connection ensures the option of connecting wired devices such as MP3 and CD players. Thanks to the LAN connection, you can also connect the NUMAN One to your network via cable. There is also a line-out connection for connecting to your stereo or sound system. Two compact 6,35 cm (2,5") full-range speakers ensure a concise sound with precise frequencies and rich bass. Crystal-clear highs and intense mids are enriched by powerful bass, guaranteed by the integrated down-firing subwoofer. Despite all the fiddling around with the equalizers, the device doesn't go beyond the sound of a better kitchen radio for me.

The Numan Mini Two 2.1. I like it much better because of its compact shape, the carrying handle and the sound. Unfortunately, the multiroom function is missing here, which I could not test the connection of two devices. The Mini is not only cheaper but also significantly more compact than the large radio, but also only has a 6,35 cm (2,5") full-range speaker. But that doesn't detract from the sound, on the contrary: For me, the Mini Two beats the Numan One with otherwise almost the same Features especially in the sound. The battery compartment is also practical, so that the device can also be operated outdoors with a rechargeable battery, where you can carry the device with the carrying handle light gets transported. Unfortunately, the battery is not included in the standard equipment of the device, so I'm about Effect and sound cannot say anything under changed conditions.
