Last week I was at various events of the Berlin Fashionweek - at the invitation of Vöslauer, the sponsor of the event. To be seen there were luxury eco-fashion, male designers in high-heels, carpet fashion, a sleazy gimmick and plenty of celebrities.
The Greenshowroom at the Hotel Adlon wants to combine luxury and sustainability. As the latest craze we are presented with leather from specially cultivated organic salmon. With the ecological background knowledge, however, it is not so far: What makes the salmon to the bio salmon - misrepresentation.
Austrian shoe designer Stefanie Stolitzka has created deerskin chucks that are real sustained and healthy meant to be. Only the brine is not biodegradable, only recyclable. Because Stolitzka doesn't trust the organic soles. "There are no long-term studies and what is the point of biodegradability if the sole falls apart after half a year?"
She wants her pieces to be understood as individual pieces and everyone customers individually that Concept convey behind it: “People should wear the shoes because they are really interested in them. Not because they are inn. " It is therefore not initially aiming for a large market.
However, if a cooperation partner offered themselves, they would also go into mass production. "After all, the production is very complex," she says apologetically.
In the Mercedes Benz fashion week at the Brandenburg Gate, designer Marcel Ostertag finished his own show - in mini skirt and grime jacket from the current collection, pantyhose, high heels and colorful strands in the long, waving hair. It did not look ridiculous, but more elegant than many a model, as he skilfully walked along the catwalk.
The applause he received shows that such a picture is still unusual. When I think of the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes in Toronto, with the men in her high heels Women took to the streets to demonstrate against violence against women, that takes on a political dimension for me. Speaking of violence against women - what does that say about high heels?
Ironically, mineral water manufacturer Vöslauer was waiting with one Innovation up, which is no longer quite so new, but is something I would actually wish for in fashion: practical wearing comfort.
Martin Eicher, responsible for export at Vöslauer Marketing, didn't understand at first that a bottle needs a carrying ring. The Idea came to that Companys 2008 because they wanted to support their customers Austrian Airlines, who wanted to hang the bottles in first class.
In the meantime, however, the pocket ring, which is its official name, has also become popular in the Everyday life established: "The idea is very practical, for example when you have books under your arm," explains Martin and reveals that the practical ring should actually be called "the clever little rascal".
One of the highlights was the carpet fashion collection of the German-Canadian Kirsten Korhani, this time under the motto Marlene Dietricht. About her ingenious marketing idea to sell her company's carpets through a fashion collection of carpets apply, I wrote last year.
But even those who wanted to see a few celebrities came to theirs Costs – here, for example, Cosma Shiva Hagen and the inevitable Bruce Darnell.

It's interesting that always the same people comment on such topics :-)
That's why I write as a “newcomer” or NewComer:

Hello Andrew, Thanks for the super-detailed post. Yesterday, by the way, I met some very sexy men in skirts. Everything works ;-)
Not only do I not see any connection to women's rights, I don't even see a gender connection at all. Clothing is fashion and therefore subject to constant change. Heel shoes are an invention by and for men, namely for riders around the time of Louis XIV, who found better support in their stirrups with heels. They only found their way into women's fashion a good 100 years ago, i.e. relatively new. The miniskirt was also worn by the Romans over 2000 years ago, but only by men - it only found its way into women's fashion around 50 years ago! The tights also originate from the Middle Ages and were also a development for men, whose skirts were getting shorter and shorter at the time.
Even if in the present time these garments are connoted in the eyes of some contemporaries / genossinen female, why should I as a man defend myself against it? Is female derogatory? Pardon, but I married my wife because I like her!

Hello Juergen64, thanks for the comment. I think that's great! I seem to have hit a nerve - I'll take up and illuminate the topic again in a separate article.
I do not know why heels should have something to do with women's rights.
There are mainly shoes only. But why men are hitherto categorically excluded from wearing high heels and are not recognized by society is still a mystery to me. Finally, paragraphs were originally intended to be found in the stirrups while riding. They were intended exclusively for men 's shoes / boots.
And the number of men who want to wear high heels is, to my knowledge, very high, so it would be a market that can be used. If industry / trade do not want to profit from it, they will be cutting their own branch on which they are sitting. Because more and more men no longer want to wear the ever-boring treads, and use more and more unisex-extravagant models from the women's department, since so slowly but surely also larger sizes are offered.
It does not have to be equal to 10cm stilettos, I think 5cm would be a pretty good start. The designers have shown that creations are possible, which are very suitable for men.
Only the trendscouts have to finally make field studies to find out what men really want. Or are they actually so blind and miss the chance to open up a new market.
The cosmetics industry has managed to integrate the men into their target group, why does it not work with the shoemode or the men's fashion in general?
Thank you for closing my educational gap on historical origins on the subject of paragraphs - learned something again.
Otherwise, thanks for the really great comment - I wasn't aware that the interest in the topic of heels for men is so great.
Where is the problem when men wear heels or even more feminine shoes?
If it fits the outfit, it's no problem. It does not always have something to do with ladies' laundry wearers.
I also like to wear heels, pumps and ballerinas to jeans and shirt, because just kept simple. I also do not see it as a statement of women's rights. For one thing I do not like what we men have been for years in unimaginative shoemode in always equal cuts presupposed and break accordingly
from this cycle, and on the other hand I see it as a statemant for men's rights who want to go new ways. Women like to wear things from our wardrobe and it is considered as normal, but if a man wants to demand equal rights, the establishment soon goes under.
I do not see this just as fair, not even, every time a fashion designer turns this
Tehmas, he is immediately crushed and torn by the relevant specialist press.
I think it should slowly take a rethink.
Hello Itter,
thank you for the cool comment, especially to the unimaginative male shoemode!
I have a problem with high heels as a woman, I prefer comfortable shoes. So maybe the prejudice.
