Women in IT on the rise?

Commendable that the study series of the Center of Human Resources Information Systems (CHRIS) of the University of Bamberg in cooperation with the career portal Monster this year the topic "Women in IT” has dedicated its own topic special.

The reason for this, however, is not so good: the proportion of women applicants for IT professions is less than 20%. The study also gives reasons for this, e.g. that IT is responsible for Women just isn't sexy enough.

Results too optimistic?

Personally, I think that's too short-sighted, for me the reasons lie primarily in a corporate culture that is heavily dominated by men - more needs to be done than a few girls days to meet women sustained to inspire.

Elsewhere, too, the study is way too much for me optimistic: Only 3,8% of Recruiter have Anxiety, in the course of automation to their job verlieren. Why Germany's HR yourself like that for sure feel The study does not reveal this, by the way. 5 X 3 trends at a glance:

“Women in IT”:

  1. Expert strength unchanged: the shortage of skilled workers is increasing continuously, especially in
the IT industry. In 2017, 56,7% of the vacancies will be difficult or even impossible to fill. Women as a relevant target group among the applicants are still clearly underrepresented and make up only 17,4% of the candidates in the IT sector and only 13,3% in the top 1.000 companies.
  2. Women for image purposes only: 44,2% of women working in IT professions believe that
the companies only communicate for image purposes that women
are welcome or will be hired.
  3. Balanced work-life balance: 54,4% of the IT experts maintain their work-life balance
for good - significantly more than their male counterparts and also more than
    Women in other industries.

Addressing the candidate only slightly - 27,9% of them are
    the candidate annoyed.
  3. Automated applicant pre-selection: You only use 7,9%
of the top 1.000 companies, but two thirds of them see it
Companies as conducive to non-discriminatory preselections. That
also think 35,5% of the candidates!

additional costs associated. Six out of ten companies see it
    also a high technical effort.
  3. Mobile recruiting is slow in business: Although companies since 2012 indicate that the presentation of their career websites on mobile devices has improved, they only work with half of the candidates without problems.

“Application of the future”:

  1. Advantages of the letter: 78,5% of companies say that candidates are at
Cover letters can set them apart positively from others.
  2. CV more important than cover letter: Only 59,8% of the companies see the cover letter
as an important part of the application in the future and rather represent the
    Focus on resume.
  3. Future Technology One-Click Application: The one-click application is an interesting innovation.
17,9% of companies plan to implement it in the future.
23,3% of the candidates have already used it. By the way, apply
only 20% of candidates prefer to work with companies, though
    One-click is possible.
