Yesterday, a new university ranking published by our cooperation partner Universum, access KellyOCG and Wirtschaftswoche. For them, the top 10 universities were also immediately the job guarantors for their graduates. But can one say that - and is that even desirable?
Students can be happy if you put them in front of their noses where you should study best. And yet such a ranking, especially garnished with the promise of “job guarantee” is also dangerous - and also for Companys, It suggests: Simply study according to Scheme F at the University of XY - and then you will find a job.
I recently got into one Lecture by Marcus K Reif, HR from Ernst and Young found out that companies should urgently give thought to diversity: It is not penguins that are important for companies, who are constantly recruiting new penguins, but rather cross-heads.
But they are often on detours to Objective came and had to deal with their own failures again and again. As an example you only have to look at the Career look at the manager Thomas Sattelberger, who made it from being a communist to the board of directors of Telekom, introduced the women's quota there and repeatedly opposed MBA and eliteVocational Training pronounce
One can also argue about the methodology of the ranking. students Online did that and scolds:
… The approach seems rather limited at all. Only business-related subjects were taken into the race. The eight selected subjects at the universities are: computer science, mechanical engineering, business administration (BWL), business informatics, electrical engineering, economics (VWL), natural sciences and industrial engineering.
Of course, only subjects that seem to be of interest to companies are of course consistent - because, unfortunately, in Germany, too much attention is still being paid to the field of study in comparison to other countries.
But something else bothers me: For the university ranking, Universum and access KellyOCG have only surveyed 2007 HR managers across Germany since 500. This selection I find it a bit unrepresentative. And also subjective.
Because the results reflect the HR managers' assessment of which universities and technical colleges their graduates are best for needs of companies, which criteria are important for the selection of an applicant and which soft skills the personnel managers from the universities are more interested in Commitment with regard to the education of the students.
As I know from conversations with many HR managers, such assessments often also include very personal experience: not just good or bad experiences with the graduates of this or that University, but perhaps the HR manager studied at the university himself.
He maintains good relationships with the respective ones Professorin. Or even worse, he knows such rankings and has, often unconsciously, the general Opinions connected via the university XY. Such things play a role in evaluation much more often than some would like and thus become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
But which are the top universities with an alleged job guarantee? First and foremost the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT), which has won the top spot in three departments. The technical university, which focuses on engineering and natural sciences, takes first place in the fields of industrial engineering, mechanical engineering and computer science in the assessment of more than 500 HR managers in Germany.
RWTH Aachen occupies the top position in the fields of electrical engineering and the natural sciences. At the Fachhochschulen, the staff responsible for personnel chose the Reutlingen University of Applied Sciences in the fields of business administration (business administration) and business engineering. The Berlin-based universities and technical colleges made a great leap forward.
The TU Berlin has improved in all areas and is among the top ten in five specialist areas in this year's ranking. The Humboldt University of Berlin and the Freie Universität Berlin were also able to jump into the top ten in three or two disciplines. At the Fachhochschulen, the HTW Berlin in the mechanical engineering sector climbed for the first time, an improvement by eight positions compared to the previous year.
