Forecasts go into the pants

Globalization, economic crisis, layoffs: Secure jobs with good pay are no longer normal. Nowadays, job-starters have a hard time finding jobs. No wonder many people want to know how to find a safe job. But predictions go well in the pants.

How do we know today what job will be needed tomorrow? Yesterday I attended a discussion on the webinale. An opinion in which all the discussants agreed: The development of the last few years went so fast that no one could imagine before 10 years. Any training we did or would have done before 10, without learning, would be worthless today.

Caution with the compartment strength

In this context, we would like to hear a lot of the experts, who would be able to visit us soon due to the demographic change. But caution is advised whether this is really true or not even as a targeted fairytale turns out, as many of our readers think.

The fact is that there is a need to differentiate between specialists, not only for industries such as: I also said in an interview in the ARD on the subject of professional deficit: So is allegedly a shortage of engineers to be feared - but apparently above all engineers with a sound specialized knowledge sought - and these special requirements are also changing rapidly with the technology. In addition, there are areas where there is a guaranteed shortage, because they are chronically underpaid - such as in the elderly care.

What can futures do?

Accordingly, I was skeptical when my editor for RP-ONLINE asked me to write an article about crisis-proof jobs. Because, I asked myself: is that even possible? So do it at all Sensewant to predict which professions will be needed in the future? And what methods are there?

Futurists like Dr. For example, Eike Wenzel to describe social change processes - he says in an interview with me: “We look at what is happening today, think about it, conduct studies and surveys. So we identify phenomena and try to explain them. In the end we try to analyze how the economy will develop in the next ten years. In addition, we also make statements about the long-term major trends, so-called megatrends, which will become important in the next 40-50 years. ” explains Wenzel, author and consult at the Zukunftsinstitut his method.

Which sectors offer good prospects?

Some industries would have a clear head: In the coming years, Wenzel sees good opportunities, eg in ecology, in the health and fitness sector or in information technology. But also in the alternative tourism sector or even in the cultural sector Wenzel has a good long-term view of professional opportunities:

"A fundamental change is taking place in our society: fewer and fewer people want to consume cheap off-the-shelf offers, but are looking for conscious, individual experiences and are willing to spend a lot of money on them."

Salary studies for short-term forecasts

If you would like to have something more specific and who has an outlook for the next two to three years, you can look at the entry salaries of university graduates, such as the Stuttgart recruitment and career counseling alma mater, which specializes in academic junior staff.

Because top salaries are a good indication of the development of the next few years - especially for graduates who are fresh from university and still have the biggest problems to find a job at all. There is also a high demand in sectors where above-average payers are paid - and job security in the coming years is guaranteed.

Study subjects off the beaten track

It can help to choose a field of study off the beaten path: because it is not offered so often, the competition is lower, at the same time, it often acquires the required specialist knowledge. Our author Milan Klesper has several such programs, here Tourism Management, described in detail.

Which industries are currently paying well?

But what do salary studies actually show? A study by alma mater shows that, for example, in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, gross incomes of more than 43.000 € per year are possible. Suppliers of oil, gas, water and electricity pay an average of 41.611 € annually to young professionals with a university degree regardless of their functional area. Only just below are the starting salaries in the electrical, news and precision engineering sector. Third place goes to career starters in banking and finance as well as insurance and finance. In the early years, they earn almost five percent more than the average.

In contrast, the media, other services, the public sector and the temporary employment sector are in sharp contrast. In the media, graduates even have to pay up to eleven percent less salary than their former fellow students. At least in the short term, it looks rather mau in the cultural area with good job prospects.

Safe future as a discontinued model

Nevertheless, thinking with the safe industries of the future is an obsolete model. As stated earlier, lifelong learning is becoming increasingly important as development progresses faster and faster. Accordingly absurd, the career choice system prevailing so far in Germany seems to be training and maintaining this job for a lifetime.

But the fact is that, despite all the changes, this attitude is still firmly rooted in the minds - as the editor of my editor has already pointed out after such a schema-F solution. In fact, people who do something completely different after their education are still considered exotic and have a hard time. Our author Tom Diesbrock has written a very nice, ten-part series, why the career change is so difficult for many.

Fun as a working principle of the future?

So why not simply do what you want, enjoy life and be creative with fun. That sounds like that Frenchwoman Marie in an interview says, is not particularly responsible and could be the model of the future.

For those who live like this do not just lazy into the day, but also develop new ideas. Because only with this willingness to learn for life, you will be prepared for future developments. And then it is not that difficult to start again in the middle of the day, as our author Katharina Daniels writes in her two - part article Restart in the food center zeigt.

very detailed article. In fact, I fully agree with the message that lifelong learning is important and you have no collateral. This can be understood, for example, from the banking crises of recent years. However, the type of financial and occupational safety, relative to the previous generations, I think very well.

    Best Regards

    • Simone Janson

      Hi Alex,
Of course, today we have more financial security than, for example, the post-war generation. However, those around the age of 30 will probably be the first generation to be in better financial shape than their parents. And a career counselor once said to me "For school leavers, the question is no longer whether they can find a job, but whether they can find a job that they can live on." I also see that precarious employment is increasing and more and more people are moving from one temporary job to the next.
But I also believe that in this generation more self-interest is needed to get something on its feet. Therefore, with the hedge is actually relative.
