Munich is certainly the noblest and most expensive city of Munich. The conference locations are accordingly interesting.

1. Days like Queen Elisabeth II., Rolling Stones or Tina Turner: Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski, Munich
For those who have always wanted to meet and stay like Queen Elisabeth II, the Rolling Stones, Tina Turner or Kathy Perry, the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski in Munich is recommended. Unfortunately, it comes at a price.
Nice hotel - unfortunately not for every budget
Recently someone asked at Facebook for a nice, comfortable hotel in Munich - and almost immediately the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski, centrally located in Maximilianstraße. It has 230 rooms and 67 suites. The largest of them, the Presidential Suite and King Ludwig II Suite, are 130 and 190 square meters respectively.
Now the prices are from 230 euros per night and room – for early bookers at least 30 days before arrival – for sure not in every traveller's budget. However, that's no wonder, because the hotel is definitely one of the best I've visited so far: first-class service, extremely friendly staff, nice, cozy interior, good food.
Staying and lodging like the Queen, Andy Warhol or Sean Connery
Among the best-known guests are Audrey Hepburn, Queen Elizabeth II, Leonard Bernstein, Andy Warhol, Kathy Perry, Tina Turner, Sean Connery, Robbie Willliams, Elizabeth Taylor, Anthony Quinn and the Rolling Stones.
The history of the hotel began with the Bavarian King Maximilian II. After the example of his father Ludwig I he wanted to set an urban monument - in the form of a named after him boulevard. He had one of the biggest architectural competitions of that time advertised and finally the winner, Friedrich Bürklein, designed all the buildings of the future Maximilianstraße - with the exception of the Museum of Ethnology and the hotel, which was designed by the architect Rudolf Gottgetreu and opened 1858.
About 60 Million invested
For 150 2008, 16 rooms and suites have been completely redesigned for the 42 rooms and suites in the listed building section on Maximilianstrasse - even from the ground plan. The well-known architects Viktor Kim and Pierre Court from San Francisco and New York were responsible.
2009 has been completely rebuilt, including 12 tons of Sicilian mamor and the walls covered with brown leather. In the next few years, a further 50 million was invested in the renovation of the rooms, the restaurant and the event area.
Rubens and van Dyk on the walls
This is so worth mentioning because of the extraordinary Style of the hotel immediately Eye stands out: Classic, yet cozy with an unusual touch Combination of traditional and modern furnishing elements: In addition to the lobby with its glass dome, this applies above all to the rooms and corridors. Noble Louis XIV pieces were combined with an exciting crossover of modern designer furniture, that means noble, heavy wooden furniture next to Plexiglas chairs by Philipp Starck or marble next to colored mosaic stones. It's not to everyone's taste, but I personally really liked it.
A particularly eye-catching are the old master paintings from the Munich Pinakothek, which take a picture the hotel through a special permit and had become attached to the walls in the corridors and rooms. Thus, each suite has a different painting by artists like Rubens or van Dyck.
Breakfast: healthy superfoods
Something out of the frame falls as the Schwarzreiter Tagesbar and the Schwarzreiter restaurant, where I have the breakfast. The restaurant has the name of the deep-sea chariot of the same name, which is one of the favorite dishes of King Ludwig II.
The rooms are elegant, but the room where breakfast is set up is more reminiscent of an English country kitchen. The breakfast itself is great and leaves nothing to be desired, especially what the selection of healthy and vegan food. Yes, the selection of trendy superfoods is perhaps even a little exaggerated.
Days and relax
However, the conference area is modern in design: there are eleven multifunctional function rooms, including free WLAN and daylight. The largest room Maximilian is 500 square meters and can accommodate up to 500 persons. It can be separated into four parts. The smallest room is the hunting room with 25 square meters: it offers a classic meeting room for up to 12 people. The prices are negotiable.
On the other hand, the spa on the 6th floor invites you to relax with a relatively large pool, small sauna area and sun terrace with a view over the rooftops of Munich. The Kempinski follows the trend of city hotels to greatly reduce the size of the wellness area - if you like it a little more spacious here, another hotel is recommended. Otherwise, the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski, Munich, is highly recommended.
2. Meetings between the Syria Conference and King Ludwig: Hilton Park Hotel Munich
The comfort of a classic 5 star hotel and good service in a central location - this makes the Hilton Park Hotel Munich attractive even for major political conferences such as the Syria Conference.
Syria Conference and Olympiad
The request for the Syria meeting came spontaneously, explains the Senior Director of Conventions and EventsSales, Andreas Etscheid, and thanks to good logistics, the hotel had the capacities available at short notice to handle the 200 people with increased security precautions.
Finally, the 1972, which was built for the Olympic Games, housed the Munich Security Conference until the end of the 90 years and is still well equipped for such events and is also used by various football clubs:
The 484 rooms and suites are not only the largest rooms in the city, as they say, but all have a balcony, some with views of the nearby English garden, the Alps or the city center. The reason for the generous equipment is that the building was originally planned as an apartment house.
The hotel was renovated in 2012 and therefore has the classic Hilton-typical Business-style also features Italian design elements that give the lobby and rooms a cozier touch.
All rooms are equipped with a flat screen TV and minibar, the wireless in the 2012 completely renovated hotel is only in the public area, but not in the rooms free of charge. Guests on the Executive Floor have access to the Executive Lounge with complimentary drinks and snacks.
Meetings and conferences
The 21 meeting rooms with a professional business center are an absolute plus for straightforward meetings and conferences. The 821 Quadrarmeter large ball room offers space for events up to 1015 participants. In the foyer, there is an exhibition space for up to 700 persons. There are also four executive boardrooms and flexible meeting rooms, usually with natural daylight and the latest technical equipment.
Special highlights are the completely glazed salon Marco Polo in the 15. Floor with views over Munich and the Alps, as well as the Salon Rumford with terrace at Eisbach.
King Ludwig program
On request, the hotel offers a King Ludwig program with special decoration and dinner. The special children's area is also worth mentioning: for company events with Family the hotel also engages special childcare on request and at an additional cost.
The opening hours of the adjoining fitness and beauty area are also suitable for business purposes. This is open throughout and allows for relaxation and movement before or after work. However, the pool with countercurrent system is only open from 7 to 22.
The proximity to the English garden also allows for jogging in the morning or long walks. All in all, the central location of the hotel is great: Both the entertainment district Schwabing as well as many famous beer gardens and the old town are within walking distance.
Design and food
Finally, the excellent breakfast in the Tivoli restaurant directly on the Eisbach should not go unmentioned: Here guests can choose between a continental breakfast or a rich breakfast buffet. Breakfast is also geared towards Asian and Arab guests, including a Schischa-Zelt there in the garden.
In the lobby there is not only a chandelier whose shape emulates the famous Munich Eisbach wave, but the Café People's Lounge also invites you to relax with piano music, drinks and snacks.
3. Motel One München-City-Süd: The budget business classic
The Motel One is almost the classic budget business hotel: inexpensive, practical and modern. It was time to report it.
In the Headquarter of Motel One
My Wahl fell on Motel One Munich South in the Giesing district - also because Motel One's headquarters are located here, just a five-minute walk from the Wettersteinplatz underground station.
Some of the 502 rooms are located in the upper 13 floors, giving them truly beautiful views of the city, including sunrise and sunset. The front rooms are right on a busy street. Here travelers should inform themselves, which room situation they book.
Equipment of the rooms
As for the design, the rooms are all decorated in the typical motel-one style, colorful in modern design and carpeted floors. They also include air conditioning, a work desk, a flat-screen TV and a queen-size bed.
The granite bathrooms shine with a rain shower. However, guests have to do without extras such as a minibar or an iron, which saves money Costs on the business trip.
Lounge and breakfast area
I was thrilled by the chic lounge and bar next to the lobby, which, like the reception, is open to 24 h. It's all in the typical motel-one turquoise with lots of wood - a great, cozy yet stylish atmosphere.
The lounge is also used as a dining area serving light meals, snacks and a breakfast buffet. Breakfast is also served in the restaurant, and there are also two very nice terraces with fountains in the courtyard. system .
Equipment and service
This exclusive equipment shows that not only is the headquarters of the Motel One Group located here, but also the One Campus, the central further education facility of the Company. Thanks to this fact, for example, this Motel One is the only one with a restaurant.
The technical equipment of the hotel also benefits from the headquarters: Not only is WiFi free for guests, but iPad rental devices are also available, depending on availability. However, the seminar rooms of the One Campus are explicitly not rented out externally.
Also included in the service are children up to 6 years free of charge in the room of their parents, pets are also possible at the extra charge of 5 Euro.
4. Harry's Home Munich Hotel and Apartments: modular system for business customers
“Save on accommodation, not design” is Harry's Home's motto, and it's the first thing you hear when you call. Because with the modular principle, they can customers decide for themselves which services they are willing to pay for.
Extras extra pay
what in others Industries is already common practice, is gradually finding its way into the more conservative hotel industry: the fact that customers initially only pay for basic services and then, as the name suggests, the many large and small extras, extra.
And not only in terms of service: the furnishings of the guest rooms are also based on the customer's needs in terms of space, high quality of the furnishings and practicality Solutions.
Select from different blocks
Depending on the length of the stay, the guest can choose from various building blocks, such as the size and location of the room, the frequency of cleaning and the type of food.
The hotel concept is aimed at both leisure travelers and business travelers. Thus, two seminar rooms with a capacity of a maximum of 50 persons can be booked. Pleasant: The WLAN does not have to be booked separately, but is available throughout the house free of charge.
What are the options?
The optional service offer includes two washing machines and dryers, which can be booked for 2 Euro or two different breakfast options with regional products: Business Breakfast is available for 6,50 Euro, Buffet Breakfast for 12,00 Euro.
But the 24-hour reception, modernly known as a service point, also fulfills extra wishes, for example a shuttle service, a small snack in the middle of the night or the personal Nespresso machine with capsules in the room. Only the staff sometimes seems to be overloaded with information.
Design in the Godlfischglas
Original, after all: If you need something reassuring, you can have a goldfish aquarium brought to your room. Pets are also possible - for 6 Euro extra charge per day. If there is not something at the service point: In the same building complex there is a drugstore and a supermarket.
Speaking of buildings: The most prominent feature of the 2015 hotel is surely the futuristic-modern design inside and outside, which is also part of the concept, which also includes noise protection windows.
Harry's Home offers 125 rooms in four categories ranging between 22 and 65 square meters and starting at 79 Euro per night. The design is not only chic, but also practical and well thought-out: every studio, business or apartment, is equipped with a walk-in closet with extra space.
All rooms have a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom. There are 78 single rooms, four suites and eight apartments. In 40 rooms there is a kitchenette. The 65 Square Studio Combination Apartment from 233 Euro can accommodate up to five people - with a fully equipped kitchen, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a dining table. By its own account, the hotel is located in the category between 3 and 4 stars.
Also temporary accommodation possible
For everyone who has to temporarily live in Munich for work, Harrys Home also meets the need for “temporary living”: the rooms are up to 30 percent cheaper from bookings of one month. For Contact other guests are provided with a common area acting as a living room with its own library, large TV and Internet-Station. There is also a regular guest get-together.
Not quite optimal is from my point of view the location in the slightly outside, but close to the airport Munich district Moosach. After all, the hotel is within walking distance of the tram and subway, but above all it is directly on the S-Bahn. With this the journey to the airport takes about 25 minutes, the center a good quarter hour. The motorway access road is just five kilometers away.
5. Central hotel for business and seminars: Rilano 24/7 Munich City
Oh, station district, I still think, as I head towards more or less demolished buildings on a Tabeldance bar - and then everything is different inside. And purple.
Inside is the Rilano Hotel 24 / 7 in Munich - and it's a pleasant contrast to the hustle and bustle outside: Funky music and modern design with lots of purple-colored elements welcome me. The reception is not a closed counter, but an open table with laptop.
And that is exactly what it is Concept of the 53-room hotel, which is open around the clock, as Operations Manager Michael Baumgärtner explains to me:Orientation, dialogue with customers and efficient response to customer needs. If you look around the hotel, you can tell fast: People think along here – and you can see that in the service, for example.
Sound insulation in purple
The rooms also have purple elements - but they are used so discreetly that they do not disturb. In addition, all rooms have soundproof walls and windows: you really don't hear the noise in the station district. Also original: the adapters built into the safe doors for charging devices. They solve the plugProblem.
Otherwise efficiency reigns, here a lot of things that are otherwise known have been radically renounced: you won't find a minibar, however, and drinks can be purchased at the reception. There is also no restaurant because the hotel benefits from the surrounding localities. A hotel room can therefore be had for as little as 100 euros per night.
This also applies to breakfast, for which the guests equipped with an 10 Euro voucher. For me, always a nice breakfast buffet in the hotel is pleased, perhaps the only point of this concept.
The central location makes the hotel particularly interesting for business customers ways Minutes walk from the train station, Stachus and Sendlinger Tor are also within walking distance. Therefore, 70-80 percent of the guests are business travelers.
Meeting room with view
Still, I was amazed that the Rilano on its easy With limited space, we could even accommodate a very nice 48 sqm conference room - on the seventh floor and for 15-20 people.
At 72 Euro, the conference fee per person / day, a conference for 8 persons and 8 hours would be booked with 320 Euro. The price is usually based on the number of persons and special wishes. Only the view is there for free.
Also technical equipment with installed screen (with HDMI connection) and audioFeatures are available, beamer and screen can be integrated on request, the coffee bar is already in the room.
My drawback was the WiFi, which I was repeatedly thrown out of the test. At least one has thought along here and offers the guests a free secure login instead of an unsecured free access. All in all, a very good concept that is particularly impressive due to its service.
