Film locations offer inspired meeting and conference locations
When companies plan meetings, conferences or events, the location is usually chosen based on practical considerations. What is often missing: inspiration, for example, by a certain glam factor or the touch of the particular. There are certainly exciting alternatives.
How many people fit in the room? What is the technical equipment like? And often enough: How expensive is the room actually? What is often forgotten is that these events are often intended to inspire and create a certain image in the public eye. So what if the location is a former James Bond film location or is owned by U2? Attention guaranteed I would say! On the one hand, an unusual environment literally opens your mind to new ones ideas, but on the other hand it also guarantees increased interest from the press, which is then more likely to report on the event.
1. Meetings in Deauville - The Cannes of the North
Anyone who wants to meet Hollywood stars such as Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchet, Keanu Reves or Orlando Bloom should travel to Deauville in Normandy, where the annual Cannes Film Festival is the second most important film festival in France. The locations can also be booked for meetings.
60.000 Festival visitors every year
The small town with only a few thousand inhabitants hosts 1992 festival visitors to the American Film Festival every year in September with its 60.000-built congress center. For mass events, the small town is well equipped despite its small size: During my presence, a well-organized triathlon took place with over 1000 participants.
The film festival, on the other hand, takes place in various cinemas, including the congress center and the casino, where there are movie theaters. The 1992 convention center right on the beach offers 22 smaller seminar rooms and two auditoriums, the largest one accommodating 1447 people. There are also exhibition halls for up to 7.000 square meters. Also in the casino opposite is an Italian theater for up to 500 persons available.
Like Coco Chanel once
If you are looking for an event with a special, luxurious ambience, you can rent one of the various villas. For example the Villa le Cercle with 3 in modern design rooms for up to 280 persons. For groups up to 90 persons it is also gladly used for Dinnerevents.
The Villa Strassbourger is a bit more special. Scenes from the film Coco Chanel were filmed here in the salon, because the fashion designer opened her very first clothing shop in Deauville. The villa is completely original in Style furnished in the 50s and the historic rooms on the ground floor can be booked for events and seminars.
Seminar hotel in the Herrenhaus
A small, cozy seminar hotel in this typical Norman villa style is the “L'Augeval - Hôtel de Charme”.
It is located in the center of Deauville and is spread over 2 mansions between the famous Promenade Les Planches and the Hippodrome Deauville-La Touques. For small meetings there is a seminar room available, the breakfast is excellent.
Meeting at the racecourse and culinary
And the two horse-drawn races can also be rented for events. Deauville, a beach of Paris, offers a wide range of activities: water sports such as sailing or surfing, horseback riding, cycling, hiking or golfing. In Deauville 4 golf courses are available.
As 80% of the guests in Paris come from Deauvile, the culinary arts are not neglected either: the restaurant “Le Garage” near the center or the “Pôle international Du Cheval” in the center is recommended.
Unfortunately, Deauville is a bit more difficult to reach from Germany. From Cologne or Düsseldorf with the Thalys to Paris Nord, then with the metro one stop to St. Lazare station and from there by train, Switching in Lisieux, from there by train to Deauville. Ryanair flies direct to Deauville from London.
2. Meetings like Pedro Almodovar, Anonio Banderas and Co: Spain's largest conference hotel
The Madrid Marriott Auditorium Hotel and Conference Center is Spain's largest convention hotel, where every year celebrities such as Pedro Almodovar, Antonio Banderas and Penolope Cruz attend the Goyas, the Spanish Oscars. A review.
The opening of the new Marriott hotel in Madrid, to which I was invited as a journalist, could not have the same prominence as the presentation of the Spanish Goyas, but was quite similar to glamorous: Red Carpet, Showacts and a good Galadinner.
Mariott has just taken over the hotel, it is completely new so it is not and that can be recognized in places as well. However, the Mariott Madrid Auditorium is the largest Mariott hotel in Europe with 869 rooms and 56 meeting rooms, the largest of which is the Auditorium, equipped with stage and lighting for showevents and up to 2.000 people.
56 meeting rooms, 869 rooms
25 conference rooms have daylight, and 15.500 square meters are also available for exhibitions and trade fairs. The hotel also has 1.000 parking spaces and a fitness area that is open 25 hours. Unfortunately, the pool only opens at 9 a.m. and therefore for many Business-Guests late.
There are also various bars and restaurants, for example the ala carte restaurant Kalma, the great room for tapas next to the reception or the buffet Madrid, a particularly large dining area for up to 800 people. For VIP guests, the Executive Lounge is also available in the 3. Floor available.
The breakfast buffet is good by Marriott standards and offers a large variety selection, but the health aspect is neglected a little: For example, there are no gluten-free or vegan offers - the topic of healthy eating is not yet very widespread in Spain.
Cheap, but bad organization
I was also not really enthusiastic about the organization on site, measured by German standards. Positive On the other hand, the free use of the business center and the free and well-functioning WLAN throughout the house should be emphasized.
After all, the hotel is quite inexpensive: depending on the furnishings and the season, a room can be had for as little as 60 euros. Overall, the pricePerformanceratio is therefore comparatively quite good.
Activities for groups: skiing and grape harvest
For groups, Madrid offers a rich program of activities: For example, ski resorts can be reached in an hour, but you do not even have to drive into the area, in the city itself can experience exciting: Seagway tours or guided bike rides or a grape harvest :
In the “Experience Center Wine, La Rebelión de los mandiles” you can, for example, press artificial grapes with your feet, test your sense of smell or enjoy a wine tasting: A very original possibility for indoorTeambuilding. The activity can be booked for groups of 12 or more people, and up to 150 people are said to be possible at the same time.
Museums, tapas and wine tasting
Right next door there is excellent tapas in the Spanish tavern “Toma Jamon” - there is space for 20 people at the same time. The somewhat alternative district of Latina is ideal for exciting tours, while the area around Plaza Mayor and Porta del Sol is very touristy.
Within walking distance are the three famous museums Museo Reina Sofía, Museo del Prado and Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza with a rich collection of art from the Middle Ages to Expressionism and contemporary American Art.
The Marriott Madrid Auditorium is located approximately halfway between the airport and the city center, a good half an hour from the center. Unfortunately, it is only badly reached by public transport, however the hotel offers a free shuttle service.
Since the airline Iberia has exceptionally narrow rows of seats, if possible, another airline should be chosen or it is recommended to upgrade to the Business Class.
3. Interlaken region: days like 007 and the German soccer world championship
At Interlaken, there are two exciting Meetng locations: the original shooting site from a James Bond film and the hotel, where the German world champions have lived and celebrated after the miracle of Bern 1954.
Like James Bond
Much is exactly the same as in the James Bond film “On Her Majesty's Secret Service” from 1969: The Stair Railing. The terrace And of course the phenomenal view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
The Piz Gloria restaurant on the Schornthorn 3.000 meter was the original location for the Bond film with Georg Lazeby, Diana Rigg and Telly Savalas as villain Bloefeld and a small museum. And the stuntmen of that time, I am told, are still skiing with 70. Even WLAN is called 007.
Martini workshops and stunt deposits
The Piz Gloria is now a 360-grade revolving restaurant that can accommodate up to 320 to 400 people, which can be hired by groups - from a minimum of 5.000 francs. Exclusively, this is only possible in the evening, as the restaurant and gondola during the day to 17 or 18 clock for normal guests and skiers are open.
On request, the restaurant will also be happy to organize evenings with martini workshops and stunts. At the Bond-Burger there was nothing to complain about. The only drawback of the location is the accessibility: To get to Schilthorn, you have to change the gondola three times, only one group can travel per route: For larger groups, it can be quite complicated.
Miracle of Bern Reloaded
It can be easier, but no less original, to stay right in the valley. The Belvédère Strandhotel and Restaurant Spiez Thunersee hosted the German national soccer team in 1954 before and after the legendary World Cup final, which went down in history as the miracle of Bern. The hotel also has a small exhibition on the subject and sells merchandising products. It can also cook the original world champion menu from 1954. Unfortunately, I couldn't test it, but took a quick look into the kitchen.
The hotel used to have a Michelin star, but today the focus is more on conference guests: the hotel has 36 rooms (prices starting from 200 francs / night depending on the season) and 5 meeting rooms for up to 100 people - nice view over the Thuner Lake included. There, the hotel also has a boat that once belonged to Prince Rainer of Monaco. For football events, however, the Stockhorn Arena in nearby Thun offers: It is the home of the 1. FC Thun, Arena Thun AG, however, also offers them for sports events, but also banquets and seminars - from 5000 francs per day.
Wellness in the Palmengarten
If you travel from Spiez by boat to Merligen on the opposite side of the lake, you will be taken directly to the luxurious 5 star hotel Beatus, which offers 75 rooms in 11 categories (356 francs per night and room) and 3 meeting rooms and is a partner of the Thnuer Sea Festival: the Empiresaal maximum of 90 people, the library for up to 40 persons and the Beau-Suite for a maximum of 12 persons. The Beatus is thus primarily an exclusive meeting clientele, but is primarily a hotel for holidaymakers:
The heart of the hotel is the 2000sqm wellness area with a large outdoor saltwater pool at 35 degrees right on the lake and a small sauna park, which encourages you to jump into Lake Thun even in winter, all embedded in a very beautiful palm garden. The only downside: the system is also available to visitors from outside the hotel as a kind of public spa, which serves their refinancing, but is still not overcrowded even on Saturdays.
After all, there is a small sauna for hotel guests as well as a SPA area with excellent massages by medically trained staff. Highly recommended is also the food, which I was allowed to enjoy in the gourmet restaurant Le Be Air. Especially for a 5 star house, director Peter Mennig personally looks after his guests, which gives the house a personal atmosphere.
The Japanese Crown Prince in the outdoor Mecca
Interlaken itself is also internationally known as an outdoor mecca. Suppliers like Basecamp implement the outdoor idea for groups, but in a risk-free version, like BasecampExecutive Renato Merz explains. The companies, he concluded, are all about entertaining their employees
Even in winter, however, mass tourism is noticeable in Interlaken, which is also noticeable clear shows in gastronomy. There are nice hotels like the Lindner-owned Grand Hotel Beau Rivage, where the Japanese crown prince recently stayed. Unfortunately, many of the hotels are a bit dated -- including the large conference center, whose rooms are '80s-themed -- save for the historic rooms that date back to 1902.
Meeten with historical charm
Especially in the Beau Rivage shows how beautiful the historic charm of a building. The Grand Hotel has 101 rooms, including 4 suites and 9 junior suites, from 199 francs in a single and 299 francs in a double room. In addition, there are 12 functional meeting rooms partly up in a separate building for up to 70 persons with appropriate technical equipment - Business package from 99 francs, Alliclusive package from 130 francs, food additionally. The highlight of the event rooms is the banquet hall La Belle Epoque for up to 200 people.
There is also a small but beautiful SPA area with an indoor pool and two saunas. The food in the summer restaurant L'Ambiance and the fireplace restaurant Le Bonne Fourchette is also extremely good. I was really impressed by the almost familiar, yet professional way of dealing with management and employees. On request, the hotel can also organize various activities such as wine making, action painting, sculpturing, raft or igloo construction - in cooperation with Basecamp, among others.
Hotel from 1323
Diagonally opposite the Beau Rivage is the cheaper 4-star hotel Interlaken with 61 rooms, the oldest hotel in the region, it was first mentioned in a document 1323. Today, the old walls and vaults are partially exposed again, which offers a delightful mix of modern design and historic cosiness in the entrance area. The same applies to the stylish rooms from 100 francs / night and the 5 seminar rooms. The Gerichtsäli is for a maximum of 20, the Rococo Hall for a maximum of 70 persons. The large, bright pavilion in the middle is divided into three parts and suitable for a maximum of 100 persons. The conference packages start at 79 Francs per day / person.
The restaurant of the hotel should have a good reputation in the region, unfortunately, were working holidays, so I could not test it. The breakfast with his package from the package and the Asian to the guests tailor-made Reistopf no high quality requirements. After all, there is fresh fruit.
4. Conferences at the film location Bologna: Historic old town and good food
Not only were countless films shot in Bologna's historic old town, in the midst of winding streets, the Hotel Metropolitan is also an unexpectedly classy and spacious MICE location.
Shortcoming: The meeting room is located in the basement and the rooms are otherwise lacking in some of the equipment. Nevertheless, Bologna is especially worth a visit!
Luxury between narrow streets
The hotel metropolitan, which narrows itself into the alleys, makes from the outside rather a modest impression, but it has then in itself. 35 standard rooms, five suites and ten apartments, the three-storey hotel offers. On the second floor there is a roof garden.
The standard rooms are actually so small that you can hardly move in it, the apartments with kitchen are all the more generous. Unfortunately one could not use the kitchen during my visit.
Equipment with little pitfalls
Turning on the warm water also proved to be a trick. And unfortunately there are no room telephones in the apartments, which is why a Problem is because the reception is a few blocks away.
The hotel is air-conditioned, the rooms are equipped with lights, which I find something superfluous. Encrypted WIFI is available throughout the hotel. Also the breakfast is for Italian standards comparatively good.
Meeting room up to 40 people
There is one in the basement Meeting-Room for up to 40 people. Four meetings are held here in one week. The level of occupancy and the level of the prices depend on what is going on in Bologna.
Renting a one-day meeting room, including a coffee break and lunch, costs around 250 Euro. A standard room costs between 80 and 260 Euro per night depending on the season, an apartment between 120 and 400 Euro, a suite never less than 200.
Exceptional tours from rafting to cooking classes
Even if Bologna is more of a classic business and meeting city, you can also go on extraordinary tours here to organize. For example, rafting tours in inflatable boats through underground Bologna.
Or a joint cooking class in the typical Ferrarese restaurant “La Campanella”, just over half an hour's drive from Bologna. Agritourismo is a family business in which everyone helps, from children to great-grandfathers.
Traditional culinary delights
10 to 15 people can here from Mother Lorella and son Mirco learn how to make “cappellacci di zucca”, ravioli with pumpkin filling. For the translation into English, the Family specially hired someone.
Also worth seeing in Bologna is the University, which is the oldest university in the World applies, with its historical pathology. The Mercato Di Mezzo, with its wide range of food and drinks, invites you to take a tour of culinary delights.
Good food between historic sites
In the “Osteria del Sole”, the oldest in the city, guests have been able to enjoy the house wine, their own or previously bought food at the Mercato since 1465 (www.osteriadelsole.it). Good and typical food and wine can also be enjoyed in the Ca 'Pelletti restaurant (www.capellettilocandaitalia.it)
From the sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca you can admire a beautiful view over the historic center and the Apennines, through the Portico di San Luca, an 666 km long arcade made of 3,5 arches.
5. Conferences and seminars in Schnalstal - between film location, Ötzi and Reinhold Messner
The locality Ötzis, the summer residence of Reinhold Messner, the location of several international films - and plenty of space for team building activities of all kinds characterize the South Tyrolean Schnalstal as a meeting and event location.
Location for international, award-winning films
The entrance to the Schnalstal valley is narrow, then it widenes and runs 22 kilometers to the Hochjochferner meters, to which the highest ropeway of South Tyrol leads (mountain station on 3212). Now, in May, there is no season here, besides, it is quite cold this year, so that the valley is quite sparse and original.
No wonder that it was the location for several films such as the American 3-D film “Everest” or the German film award “Das Finstere Tal”.
On Reinhold Messner and Ötzi's footsteps
Right at the entrance of the valley is Juval Castle, the summer residence of the Messner family, together with a mountain museum and restaurant. The location can also be rented for meetings and events, if Messner family is not exactly there.
In our place Ms.. lies the ArcheoParc Schnals, where you can find out more about the glacier mummy Ötzi, which was found on the Tisenjoch in 1991. The park also offers numerous group activities with which the Neolithic world of Ötzi can be recreated:
For example, grind the grain and bake bread, cook the stone, make the tool from firewood, pottery, wool and leather, or archery.
Sport and sheep instinct
In the valley, however, there are also numerous other activities such as rafting, kayaking, mountain biking or skiing in winter. The high ropes course Ötzi Rope Park at the Vernagter See invites you to climb with nineCourses, you can swing over a small canyon through a zip line.
The valley is also known for its sheep drive: In June and September, thousands of sheep are driven over 44 KM on the Ötztal main ridge - with a height difference of 3.200 meters. This allows the sheep farmers from the Schnalstal and Vinschgau in the summer to use their pasture rights in the rear Ötztal above Vent. However, this tour is anything but a relaxed walk.
Outstanding meeting location is the place Karthaus, which originated from the monastery Kartause Allerengelberg, a former Carthusian monastery. This was founded 1326 and 1782 in the course of the secularization by Emperor Joseph II. Afterwards, the monastery area was settled by farmers and craftsmen. In a fire 1924 the place was largely destroyed, but later rebuilt.
Only the cloister and the walls are preserved from the original monastery. The small town stands beside its picturesque position on a terrace above the Schnalstal in 1323 m height by an excellent infrastructure with bank and guest house.
Silence and relaxation seminars are held here as part of the Silent Project project. The silence can also be hiked. Via monachorum leads from Our Lady, Katharinaberg or Altratheis to Karthaus. For the seminar itself, the club's home is available.
During the filming of the US film “Everest”, for example, the entire film crew was housed in various hotels in the Schnalstal, a logistical effort that would also be manageable for larger groups at events. All hotels can be found on the page.
For larger groups, the Hotel und Chalets Edelweiss on Lake Vernagtersee are ideal for accommodation, but unfortunately they do not have their own meeting room.
For accommodation in Karthaus, the place with the Projects Silence, the four-star Hotel Zur Goldenen Rose offers 20 rooms and eight holiday apartments for 2-4 people. Owner Paul Grüner also markets the franchiseConcept "Ö wie Knödl" and operates the hut "Zur beautiful view" with the highest sauna in Europe at 3000 meters.
In the cozy Grüner restaurant next door you can sample Paul Grüner's dumplings, where the traditional accompaniment is served as a main dish in all sorts of variations. Really good.
Wi-Fi is available in both the Golden Rose and the Beautiful View. If, however, more than 30 people log in at the same time, it will be difficult, says Paul Grüner. Also video conferences can not be made here.
Insider tip Josephus
An insider tip, on the other hand, is Josephus. The owners have combined old, already existing building materials and partly several hundred years old furniture with exceptionally good taste.
The Josephus offer apartments that cost four people 160 Euro, and a cozy room that can be used by smaller groups for meetings. A nice sauna with a great view is also available.
Biobauernhof from the 13. century
The Oberniederhof is a listed property, which was mentioned for the first time by 1290. One of the apartments for 2-4 people is located in this old building. The entire development of the building industry in the Schnalstal valley during the last 700 years can be traced here. The house of the family Tappeiner, in which the second apartment for 2-4 persons is located, comes from the 18. Century.
The Tappeiners run a Bioland farm here - as it is, it becomes clear on the dung heap in the middle of the yard. Petra Tappeiner actually comes from Berlin. All food for the guests is homemade - such as cheese or bacon and sold in a farm shop. Cooking classes are offered for groups.
Good food with excellent price-performance ratio can be found in the Oberraindelhof, which is run by the Raffeiner family.
The rooms are small, but original, for breakfast you can the orange juice itself and a small sauna. All this at a room rate from about 54 Euro.
6. Luxury meetings in the Schlosshotel Velden: MICE in a historical film set
Directly on the Wörthersee, the Falkensteiner Schlosshotel Velden, also known as a film venue, is a luxury event location, especially for the winter, when there is almost something going on.
Ideal MICE location for the winter
The Schlosshotel Velden is located not far from the center of Velden directly on the Wörthersee, only 27 kilometers from Klagenfurt and its airport. From there or from the train station one as a guest on request also with the Rolles Royce.
The hotel is a good address, especially in winter, for meeting and incentive events, including for German companies: because then there are hardly any guests at Lake Wörthersee and the hotel may be a little better with its prices.
The hotel looks back on a changing history: 1603 was erected by Klagenfurt's Bishop Bartholomäus Khevenhüller, parts of the north portal and the Biforenfenster above the arched west portal still date from this time.
End of 19. It was rebuilt in the Neo-Renaissance style by the Viennese porcelain manufacturer Ernst Wahliss and then used as a hotel. 1990 bought Gunther Sachs the now quite ailing object and built it with great effort to a Luxushotel.
Filmkulisse for Roy Black
Due to the restoration measures, the script for the series “A Castle on Lake Wörthersee” with Roy Black in the leading role, which was filmed here in 1992/93, had to be rewritten.
Sachs sold the building 2003 to a real estate group, which added a modern cultivation and reopened 2007, but has been selling since 2011. Since 2012 it has been operated by the Falkensteiner Michaeler Tourism Group.
The rooms: Between design and comfort
In keeping with the modern extension, the 66 rooms and suites were furnished with design furniture such as the Barcelona Chair by Mies Van Der Rohe. However, I like the 39 cozy rooms in the historic part of the building, in which the restaurant is also located, better: they have more charm and act cozier.
At all, the long, mamor-lined hotel corridors seemed a little cold, which, together with the winter rest, became a bit depressing. As for the compensation is the staff particularly friendly and also with the service can not complain.
Categories and prices
The 10 different room categories start with simple superior double rooms from a size of 31 square meters. The 58-78 square meter junior suites have a fireplace, two romance suites have their own sauna, the 300 square meter emperor suite has its own study as well as two bedrooms.
The prices differ depending on the season, category and day of the week: a superior room is available for as little as 145 euros in the off-season from mid-March to mid-May and from October to November, while in the high season from the end of June to the beginning of September it costs less of the week light the double. The romantic suite costs as much as 1958 euros in the high season, and the prices for the Kaiser and Gunther Sachs suites, both of which are also suitable for small groups, are only given on request.
The 5-star luxury hotel has three conference rooms with capacities for 10 to 130 participants, depending on the seating. Porsche recently held a meeting here with 160 people. All conference rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, flat screens or integrated screens, LCD projectors and the latest audiovisual equipment Technology – all in the wireless Internet-Access is free throughout the hotel.
The Ballroom is 410 square meters and is usually the breakfast room. It can be divided in the middle and is soundproofed and technically equipped on both sides, so that it can be individually adapted to the needs the organizer can be adjusted. It is bordered by the lake view terrace with a beautiful view of Lake Wörthersee. The room rental is 1.500 euros per day or 850 and 650 euros in the partitioned version.
Small meeting rooms
Depending on the seating arrangement, the 102 square meter Chairman's Room can accommodate up to 80 people. With an intermediate door and a separate small anteroom with sanitary facilities, the Chairman's Room guarantees absolute peace and quiet Privacy. It costs 350 euros a day.
The 150 square meter boardroom can be partitioned into 109 and 41 square meters and thus offers space for maximum 130 or 90 and 35 persons. It also costs 350 Euro. The hotel also has a coach park, the meeting rooms also have separate entrances.
Technology and equipment
A conference room appropriate to the number of persons is provided. The package covers the room rental and the space costs. The price includes wireless LAN, fax, telephone, projector, stage, flipchart, screen, DVD player, printer, TV, microphones, microphone and lectern.
Technicians, hostesses, document distribution service or copy creation can be booked separately at an additional cost. All additional booked rooms will be charged individually. All prices are valid, if drinks and consumption are also booked.
The hotel offers various conference arrangements that can be booked for groups of ten or more. For example, the “Schloss” arrangement with welcome coffee, two breaks including snacks such as homemade apple strudel and a 3-course business lunch for 95 euros per person / day or 75 euros per half-day or - significantly cheaper - only with a 2-course lunch and 2 breaks with drinks and croissants for 59 or 45 euros per person per day or half day.
In addition, there are various buffet, finger food and menu variants that are only bookable for a group size of 20 persons, such as a flying buffet from 30 Euro per person, a midnight buffet from 9,50 Euro per person or an 5-course menu for 82 Euro per person.
The food of chef Paul Schrott (43) in the restaurant Schlossstern is indeed a culinary highlight that combines Austrian and Italian cuisine. At the Gourmetrestaurant Schubeck's am Platzl in Munich, he previously returned the Michelin star within five months as a chef.
The specialties of the South Tyrolean are, among other things, beef fillet stuffed with hay or langoustine with alba caviar, carfiol and saffron. The ingredients are all fresh and high quality, which is also noticeable at breakfast. The only downside: there is almost only white bread.
The spa is the best spa I have seen so far: a highlight of the outdoor hay sauna with panoramic views of Lake Wörth (of course only inside), as well as the biosauna. There is an approximately 22 degree warm indoor pool as well as an 30 degree warm outdoor pool.
The massage is performed by naturopathsHand done, you can tell the difference. In the near future, the range of seminars will be expanded to include a massage package between sessions. There is even an interactive golf simulator, but the area around Velden also has 10 golf courses.
