{Event} Start-up competition of the FU Berlin also promotes weird ideas: raspberry basil or revolution?

Every semester organizes the Freie University a competition for Founders, who goes by the name “Funpreneur” This time, the winners are a game world in a very small space, ice cream with natural ingredients and a “RESTaurant” in which donated food is used to cook. However, there were far more curious participants in 2009.

Anticapitalists in a capitalist entrepreneurial competition?

In 2009 the competition had that Projects “Revolutionary Berlin” participated, organized city tours through the protest history of Kreuzberg - free, non-profit and funded by donations at the end of the tour, profits go to charity.

For Revolutionary Berlin understood itself as an anticapitalist project, which wanted to protest with its participation against the founding competition. You did not win with the idea. On the site of the student magazine Furios you can read:

The current winners of the competition look almost boring: With the first prize worth 1.200 euros it became Team “Edgar and Wallace” excellent. Robert Erbe and Michel Vargas-Vargas created an ice cream brand with five handcrafted flavors that do not contain any artificial flavors or additives. Their raspberry basil and chocolate chilli ice cream won over the students on campus as well as many café owners and their guests - and ultimately the jury as well.

The duo “RESTaurant” came in second place and received prize money of 800 euros. Stella Bauhaus and Maureen Strache rented a restaurant for two days and had some of the cooks cook there with food that had previously been donated to the “Berliner Tafel”. The guests could choose the ingredients for their threeCourse menu and the price. 260 menus were served, the proceeds of around 1.500 euros are donated by the “Berliner Tafel” team.

The third place associated with 500 euros went to “FuntasTisch”. Sertac Ecer and Jan Kietzmann developed a children's play table made of wood with a rotating table top with a perforated grid on one side. Associated wooden plug-in elements such as trees, houses, streets and fences can be used to create a play world that children can deal with at home, in the waiting room or in the daycare.

I really think it's an excellent idea: the Funpreneur competition doesn't just take place every year, but every semester. It is organized by “profund”, the start-up funding of the Free University.

What the matter so sympathisch and realistic: The students don't have any investors with them, but set up a small one with just five euros of seed capital Companys and set theirs ideas within five weeks. Real entrepreneurial qualities are therefore required! The only shame is the name: It's also about, but not only about Fun to have!
