Methodology: How was questioned?

The employment agency (2.056), MeineStadt (1.836), Monster (1.723) and Stepstone (1668) received the most ratings. Based on their experience with a job portal, job seekers rate general satisfaction and search quality on a scale from 1 = very good to 4 = not at all satisfied.

Overall, 537 job portals were evaluated, but only 47 job portals are taken into account for the results analysis, as these have exceeded a relevance limit of 30 or more ratings.

Objective of the project is to use a Online- Survey among job seekers to collect their assessments, preferences and ratings from job exchanges and job search engines. It should also be determined which Features and areas of use that job seekers value.

The survey was initiated in October 2008 and is a long-term survey to identify trends in the Recruiting- Identify preferences. The online survey is carried out as a joint project by PROFILO Rating-Agentur GmbH and Crosswater Systems Ltd. carried out.

Which job exchange is ahead?

Jobware, Kalaydo and Stepstone are in the favor of the Candidate in the quality competition of job portals very closely together in the top group of general job exchanges in Germany. The career portal Monster and the job exchange of the Businessnetwork XING end up in midfield.

Although the Employment Agency Job Market is still in last place, it has continually improved in user ratings.

In the special and niche job exchanges, the Mittelstands jobbörse Yourfirm, the science and technology job market Jobvector as well as hotel careers are on the top positions. Jobuma, Kimeta and iCjobs form the top group in job search machines.

The winners of the job search engines

In contrast to the job exchanges, job search engines follow a differentiated operating mode: Jobs are made with the help of the SpiderTechnology directly on the career pages of the Companys “discovered” and then followed up by means of semantic text analysis Industry, activity and postcode area are prepared and indexed so that they can be easily searched by applicants.

No surprise: job search machines in front of job exchanges

Do the poll results clearthat there is a generic competition between generalists, specialists and job search engines. When it comes to job seekers, job search engines are at the top in terms of satisfaction and search quality, followed by special job exchanges. Overall, the generalists achieve poorer ratings.

For me, no surprise: Job search engines offer a much broader overview, since you not only point to a restricted job pool, but also comb the entire offer. I already wrote about that.

Generalist Jobbörsen: A lot of marketing, little behind it?

However, the number of reviews developed rather in opposite directions: generalists have received with 11.499 reviews almost ten times as much reviews as special job fairs (1.254) or job search engines (1.541).

The reason for this is probably the much higher level of awareness of the general career portals - promoted by intensive Marketing-Campaigns – lie. However, as the degree of satisfaction shows, the results are significantly better for the specialists.

The conception of the user survey as a permanent survey makes it possible to track down trends in the dynamic market of recruiting portals and to make developments visible, for example whether improvements of individual job portals with regard to functionality or search technology are also reflected in the judgments of the usersspiegeln.

In the comparison of the last 12 months, there are some marked shifts in the favor of the job seekers.

Xing and Experteer in front

The job portals XING Jobs and Experteer have improved, Monster and Stellenanzeigen.de have changed little. The following figure shows the changes in the degree of satisfaction in the course of time during a selection of general job exchanges.

Throughout the survey since 2008 the employment agency has been able to improve continuously in the evaluations of the users - not least an effect of the relaunch of this job exchange.
