Switzerland is known for its excellent infrastructure, high efficiency and productivity. This is also noticeable when planning and holding conferences and events.
I would like to try a real one Teambuilding-Take part in a measure preferably from a well-known company whose locations I have already visited. But they are known to be reluctant to let journalists look over their shoulders at their more or less intimate events.
I was all the more enthusiastic about it Idea, to accompany event organizers, i.e. the professionals who organize such events for companies, live and in color for three days. And with the Swiss Meeting. With 80 participants from 10 nations and an organizational team, it went across Switzerland for three days. From accompanying journalists, observing in peace and taking photos, she couldn't Rede be: I was rather right in the middle of the action.
And on the way from Lugano via St. Moritz to Zurich, that meant three days of very different things Tasks such as pedal boat races, food tastings, throwing snowballs or waving flags. In between there were all sorts of knowledge questions to be answered and in the end a winning team, in this case Belgium, was determined.
We used all possible means of transport: airplane, train, boat, postal bus, bike, car, Panormazug and tram. On the spot, I would like to praise the logistical mastery of the Swiss organizers: in other countries, these procedures would have gone so far with so many participants.
Eight national teams competed against each other, incidentally at the same time as the World Cup. How fast in this way a group and we feeling against the others arises surprised me. Unfortunately, there was little time to exchange ideas with participants from other countries.
The whole thing was playful and relaxed, it wasn't really about anything, but it still gave a good impression of what it's like at events like this when colleagues compete against competitors and Employees compete against bosses.
The psychological processes involved were extremely exciting: everyone wants to Team belong and contribute something to success. The Anxiety, failing and looking stupid in front of the others always resonates and even if everyone takes it easy, there is always something of an implicit peer pressure – because nobody wants to be at fault when the team loses.
In addition, it is interesting to see who takes over which role: one is taken for granted as a bell tower, the other gets the burned coal out of the fire when the colleague fails. From this it is easy to draw conclusions about character traits and behavior in the job. Unlikely that you act completely differently in the job!
This is exactly what shows that such team building events are more than nice games, happy eating and drinking and a little distraction from work: they weld together, ideally increasing trust in each other and identification with the team Companys - and increase thereby Motivation and productivity.
Incidentally, I had the professionals tell me that it doesn't always have to be expensive and complex scenarios: the best would be to use them customers the very simple games - even if it's just a matter of knotting a salami correctly, as in Lugano.
But what do the best conference locations in Switzerland look like? An overview.
First stop at the meeting trophy: Lugano. Lugano is the third-largest financial center in Switzerland with almost 63.000 inhabitants. Lugano is not only the seventh-largest city in Switzerland but also the largest city of the Swiss canton of Ticino, the canton of the Canton of Switzerland.
Lugano lies with a lot of Mediterranean flair right on Lake Lugano, surrounded by mountains, among other things the Monte Brè or the Monte San Salvatore.
A beautiful location on top of the hill with great views over the lake and the surrounding mountains is therefore the Villa Sassa, a villa from the late 19. Century. The 4 * Superior Hotel has 49 rooms and 71 apartments, as well as 7 10-130 meeting rooms.
The Swiss Diamond Hotel is also a very nice location, which is very easy to reach by boat, but also in 20 minutes by car. It has 84 rooms and suites as well as three meeting rooms, of which the largest, the sala of the artist, can accommodate up to 200 persons or 150 seats. The two restaurants offer excellent catering.
A matter of taste in the luxury hotels in this region is the baroque-meridional furnishings, which the hotels quickly light overloaded act leaves. On the other hand, it is very suitable for all kinds of activities, especially mountain and water sports.
For example, as part of the meeting trophy, we tasted local amaretti, where we had to match the ingredients, played bocce or took part in a salami knot competition. A large Fun was also the pedal boat race on the lake.
From Lugano we took post buses - very picturesque, the old post horn - on the Palm Express route through the Italian Alps to 1800 meter high St. Moritz, one of the most famous holiday resorts in the world Welt and birthplace of alpine winter tourism.
The Rondo congress and culture center in Pontresina is the highest congress center in Europe and offers space for up to 1600 people on four floors. It is located in the municipality of Gams, in the canton of Graubünden, and is a congress center, a multi-purpose hall and a conference venue.
The St. Moritz Congress Center is a central event location in the region. The biggest events that take place here are the annual “Marchioro”, the “St. Moritz Music Festival ”and the“ St. Moritz Congress Center ”itself.
The large plenary hall Sela Arabella offers 343 square meters of space for a maximum of 500 people (standing) as well as sophisticated conference technology. Due to the hanging wooden ceiling construction, it has excellent acoustics.
There are also seven seminar rooms and three foyers with space for up to 60 (rooms) or 170 (foyers) people. The catering, also very good, takes place in cooperation with the 4-star superior Hotel Saratz.
Across the street is the 5-star Hotel Kronenhof Spa, one of the most architecturally important Alpine hotels of the 19th century. The Hotel Kronenhof St. Moritz is a luxury hotel in the middle of a small mountain valley in the heart of the Swiss Alps. The hotel has been family-owned for over 140 years and is a member of the Swiss Hotel Association.
The hotel offers a wide range of services including a 2000 square meter spa, restaurant, tavern and conference room. It has 112 rooms and suites, some with a magnificent view of the Roseg Valley and Corviglia, as well as 10 smaller meeting rooms with space for a maximum of 250 people.
The facilities of the traditional Kulm Hotel are also available for guests of the Kronenhof Founders Johannes Badrutt was able to inspire his English guests to spend the winter in Switzerland and thus invented winter sports. Getting there is also extremely easy: Swiss flies to Zurich, from where you take the train to St. Moritz.
The Kulm has 173 rooms and suites, a spa and its own golf course. The 9 meeting rooms have a maximum capacity of 500 people in the large Corviglia Hall.
You have to like the barren landscape around St. Moritz - there are plenty of activities on offer: from rather atypical water sports such as Kyte-surfing on the Engadine Lakes, to equestrian sports and all the usual alpine sports.
We did a tour with eBikes – even our 100-strong group was not for the organizers Problem –, took the mountain railway to the 2453 meter high Muottas Muragl and drove over the busy Albula Pass by car.
With the red arrow “Churchill”, the oldest road train of the Swiss Federal Railways SBB, you can continue to Zurich at a leisurely pace (maximum speed 150 km / h). The train dates from 1939 and was used by Winston Churchill in 1946.
It has 112 comfortable seats of the first class and can also be used for meetings, which is original, but due to the speed, swaying and tightness of the train from my point of view is not necessarily recommendable.
Zurich is a banking and business metropolis and, with around 400.000 inhabitants, the largest city in Switzerland. At the same time, the city offers a range of exciting event options and locations simply because of its location directly on Lake Zurich with an incomparable Alpine panorama. One Combination, which I was very excited about.
For example, you can rent various guildhouses for meetings and events directly in the beautiful city - a stylish historical ambience with room for the 100 people. Also very special is the luxury hotel Widder, which extends over nine historic residential buildings with 34 rooms and 15 suites.
Not only is the architecture a masterpiece, each room is individually furnished and furnished with furniture from Le Cobusier or Mies van der Rohe. Seven very different rooms are available for meetings and conferences, of which the largest, the Aries Hall, can accommodate up to 200 persons.
Unfortunately, the 25h hotel (126 room, 3 meeting rooms, which can be connected with space for a maximum of 100 people) and the Sheraton (197 room, 8 meeting rooms for a maximum of 230 people) are located directly next to each other.
For groups you can rent a tram of the Züricher Stadtwerke. For food and similar events, the Seerestaurant Quai 61 with a very nice location, if also a little slow service as well as the Sonnenberg Convention Center, which also has its own meeting center.
