Buddhism and management - a contradiction in terms?

Buddhism and management: a contradiction or a soothing supplement? Possibility or spinning? Only something for individual combatants and reality-seeking world improvers?

In fact, Buddhism has quite a bit to offer when it comes to new ones ways to go and in Companys to lead according to ethical criteria. And it is also desirable to make a good profit, because only then can all parties benefit.

For example, meditation and mindfulness is an excellent one prevention against Burnout. In fact, many scientific studies have found that meditation significantly increases the ability to concentrate.

A study by Yi-Yun Tang at Texas Tech University in Lubbock concluded that daily meditation has a far more positive effect on brain cells than, for example, pure relaxation exercise: the conduction speed of the gray matter increases after just four weeks exercise increased in the anterior cortex.

Control emotions through meditation

In plain language, this means that controlled handling emotions is possible through meditation. In addition, meditation has a positive effect on the autonomic nervous system: breathing, pulse, heart and circulation stabilize through regular meditation.

However, Buddhist organizational development means much more than that Things to Learn of techniques. It means establishing a Buddhist attitude towards everything and everyone. Buddhists see themselves as part of a larger whole, so their own gain is never the only focus.

2 examples and practical tips

I would like to describe in the following two practical examples from our consulting day:

Karsten S. would like in his Company establish a change in values. Be Objective: fairness, Motivation and a mutual Respect as ethical principles for each of its 800 Employees as a guiding principle. However, Karsten doesn't really know how to put his latest plans into action, because not everyone in the management level likes it Style.

The manufacturer of natural supplements Hans B. also relies on unusual and Buddhist management strategies. His employees are not bound by any given timetable, since Hans is completely familiar with them and one thing in particular is important to the company boss: the personal responsibility of each employee. Hans manages his business according to Buddhist principles with all the consequences that result.

How is this done in practice? I will explain this in more detail in the following article, which will be published tomorrow, by means of a so-called Paramitacheck.

2 methods for the right implementation

Above, I have shown practical examples from our consulting routine. In the second part, I would now like to present a little more detail on two methods of how this can succeed.

Method 1: Paramitacheck

An example of one Method is the so-called Paramitacheck: In this, classic organizational constellations are combined with Buddhist-ethical instructions (Paramitas).

Organizational constellations assume that companies are dynamic systems. In these, both groups (e.g. departments) and individuals behave in different ways based on personal relationships. Is this Behavior disrupted, for example because of a wrong appointment, this has consequences for the entire company.

When are statements useful?

The advantage of an organizational structure is that these relationship dynamics are made visible in the room by means of “actors” (representatives) and can therefore be experienced in three dimensions: that is, visible, audible and tactile. This physical experience helps to dissolve old thinking patterns and to break new ground.

Organizational constellations are particularly suitable for company takeovers, important new appointments, or internal restructuring. This has been particularly true in the areas Recruiting and employee promotion proven. In a Paramita check, a second level of constellation is introduced in addition to the conventional organizational constellation - namely that of the Paramitas.

What are the Paramitas?

The Paramitas are six concrete, Buddhist ways of acting that help to be successful according to ethical principles. These include classic career virtues such as Endurance and vigorous action, as well as generosity and sensible action as the ethical basis of everyone SALE.

Methods that help broaden horizons, specifically meditation and wisdom, are also included. Literally translated, Paramita means “deed”. So it's about what deeds you have to do with ethics Success to have.

Paramitas and Organizational Constellations

After the Paramitas were “set up” as a separate element, the paramita and organizational structure are now linked in a further step.

This also makes it possible to show very clearly how the Paramitas can be used in the respective company. From the results of this first check, I then put together an individual catalog of measures.

Method 2: Relaxed concentration

This catalog of measures can include individual coachings as well as seminars tailored to the company. Meditation, Asian physical exercises, or leadership abilities are also possible from Buddhism.

The aim of these methods is to create a state of relaxed concentration. With a little practice, this effortless concentration can also be extended to activities in the office Working world .

Come in the flow

An important prerequisite for being able to get into a “flow” state. It is a condition that can lead to effortless top performance.

Flow has been discovered by the psychologist Mihály Csíkszentmihályi and has already been adequately researched. Flow is seen as a state in which “action and awareness merge”, as a form of happiness that you can influence yourself.
