Desperate job search

About Karen and her desperate job search I already blogged this morning. Karen, currently studying engineering Job Search, wrote me a rather rude comment in my blog yesterday, to which I was initially tempted not to answer at all, because at first I thought:

"Again these overly demanding people, who polemically generalize some bad experience ..." Fortunately, I didn't follow my first impulse, because the discussion that has developed from it is quite interesting.

Karen later wrote another comment. In it she writes all her frustration at the course of talks about the soul:

"The HR just want to show your 'superiority', it's not about technical issues qualification, but about the homage to the company staff and just not too much personality.”

Instead, creative minds are needed who show their own initiative beyond a rigid curriculum and sharpen their profile individually. Individual crossheads instead of one-dimensional nerds - or how?

Theory and reality

You may think what you want of this survey - the fact is: You always like to hear from companies that individual, creative minds are in demand. Also and especially when searching for personnel via social media (Twitter, Facebook and co.), companies are always interested in presenting themselves as an innovative, open employer.

And then that. Karen's experiences don't quite fit into this picture. An unfortunate individual case that cannot be generalized? Maybe. I am personally aware of other such cases, but this need not be discussed here. The fact is, however, that Karen apparently either from the open, dialog-ready companies on Twitter and Facebook did not notice anything or this dialogue did not help her.

There could be several reasons for this: Maybe she just isn't moving on Twitter and Facebook. But it can also be because some companies (and there may be exceptions) are not as open as they would like to be themselves. Web 2.0 just means more to spread nice information about everyday company life and to build a nice career site.

How can companies be real?

Under real Web 2.0, I imagine that companies would enter into a dialogue with precisely those people who apparently put their fingers on the wound with pinpoint accuracy. And that they are the Criticism place. Because only then would they Candidate can really take seriously that companies are open and modern, that they are really looking for well-trained specialists - that was obviously not the impression here.

It may be that this is difficult in individual cases, that there is a lack of time and human resources and that it is also human that one does not like to deal with such rude criticism.
