The labor market in Germany is anything but uniform: There are even a number of regional differences that job seekers and Candidate should consider. An overview with highlights.
Bavaria is undoubtedly one of the more popular regions. Not without reason: the automotive industry and mechanical engineering are at the heart of the Economy. The country is home to numerous DAXCompanys and many international giants.
This public perception spiegelt is reflected in Indeed's data. The Bavarians particularly like to look for jobs with their industrial flagships. Right at the front: BMW, Audi and Siemens. Bavarians are looking for a job at Audi three times more often than the national average, twice as often for one at Siemens and even four and a half times as often for one at BMW. Overall, the Bavarians are very attached to their homeland. Around 87 percent of searches for jobs in Bavaria come from Bavaria itself.
However, the Bavarians are not only committed to certain companies. Popular searches also refer to individuals Industries. The pharmaceutical and chemical industries are particularly popular here. This is searched for around one and a half times as often in the Free State as the national average.
The freistaat is also particularly popular among Baden Württemberg, Hessen and applicants from North Rhine-Westphalia. Together these three countries come to about 55 percent of search traffics for jobs in Bavaria.
Another search query that is particularly popular compared to the other federal states will make the people of Munich happy. In self-perception, the Bavarian state capital has long been the northernmost city in Italy. That now seems to be confirmed by data from Indeed. “Italian” is used as a search term on Indeed in Bavaria with an above-average frequency. Almost twice as often as the national average, applicants want to improve their language skills at the Job Search . use
The Italians are only fifth in the search requests from abroad, with around six percent of search queries. At the top of international search queries is little surprising Austria with about twelve percent of the search requests, followed by the UK (eight percent) and the United States (six percent). Croatia also has a good fourth place with about 6 percent.
Unsurprisingly, Munich is the most popular city in Bavaria, followed by Nuremberg and Augsburg. About a quarter of all Candidates is looking for a job in the state capital. For companies in Munich, this does not mean any relaxation, because Munich is also at the top with around 31 percent when it comes to vacancies. This mismatch indicates that vacancies in Munich are difficult to fill. Small and medium-sized companies in particular suffer from this, and as I mentioned above, there is enormous interest in corporations.
Jobs in human resources and human resource development are also in above-average demand in Bavaria. Bavaria is also looking for this around 1,5 times more often than its fellow citizens outside the Free State. For us this is a sign of a healthy, functioning and dynamic labor market. A country in which the labor market works is also pulling HR-Specialists.
Especially small and medium-sized enterprises can only win with good personnel. Despite the healthy labor market in Bavaria, small and medium-sized enterprises outside the three big cities must have good arguments in order to attract or retain talent. From our experience, innovative personnel policy is crucial. Thus, a flexible design of the workplace can attract talents. Anyone who can make his work place and working time relatively free, can also do without commuting and reside where he or she likes, whether Munich or Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

A cosmopolitan melting pot of Art, culture and politics. Swabians are only a marginal phenomenon: This is how the Berlin job market presents itself. What makes him special?
Anyone who has ever had their coffee in a café in Berlin-Mitte is not surprised: languages are right at the forefront of the keywords for job searches in Berlin. Compared to the whole of Germany, foreign languages are searched for above average in Berlin.
English is a top-ranking search engine, but it is only eighth among the most popular search terms. All 17 percent of search queries from abroad come from the island, by far the number 1. Brits probably know simply that in the open-air Berlin places are often posted directly in English. This makes the capital very different from most other German cities. A real competitive advantage, because English job advertisements get three times more clicks from abroad.
In the search queries on Indeed, one also notices Berlin's role as the gateway to Eastern Europe. Berliners search for Russian seven times more often than the national average, and almost eleven times more often for Polish. The spiegelt is reflected in the traffic. Around eight percent of searches from abroad in Berlin come from Poland. That's second behind the UK.
The Romance languages French, Spanish and Italian complete the list. Jobs in which these languages are required are sought seven to nine times more often in Berlin than in the rest of the republic. We see one reason in the radiance of Berlin on southern Europe. Especially in Spain, which is plagued by high youth unemployment, Berlin is trendy - especially with well-educated graduates. Between four and a half and eight percent of foreign job searches come from France, Spain and Italy. Not only in terms of languages, but also in popular industries, the capital's labor market functions differently than the rest of the republic.
Berliners are looking for jobs in art, culture and politics. This is obvious, because Berlin has not a significant industry due to the island island of West Berlin and the disintegration of East Berlin after the turnaround. Instead, Berliners often seek the terms film, music, art, museum and theater, three to five times more often than the national average.
Within Germany too, Berlin has a great attraction. Contrary to prevalent prejudices, however, the city is not overshadowed by Swabia. Only eight percent of search queries come from Baden-Württemberg. That is enough for fourth place.
The table of the German popularity is hardly surprising by Brandenburg. 20 percent of search queries outside Berlin come from there. North Rhine-Westphalia (16%) and Bavaria (11%) also occupy top ranks. An interesting imbalance can be seen in the opposite direction: Bavaria is more popular with Berliners than differently. Prussia, therefore, seem to go more frequently to Bavaria than elsewhere.
Similar to terms from art and culture, the search terms “foundation”, “editor” and “PR” are searched two to three times more frequently than outside the capital. This above-average interest is explained by the large number of foundations, think tanks and PR agencies that accompany the political operations of the capital fast.
However, the accumulation of these search terms in Berlin also makes it clear how many talents there are with the corresponding qualification live in Berlin. For companies urgently looking for native Russian speakers or looking to expand into political consulting, this means they should consider establishing a Berlin office sooner rather than later.

The commercial metropolis and Hanseatic city of Hamburg is also a popular employer. Thanks to its international port, it is also known as the gateway to the Welt bezeichnet.
Above all, the gateway to the world is also a gateway to Great Britain. Around 18 percent of foreign searches for Hamburg come from the island. The currently increased job searches from Great Britain to Germany could have a positive effect especially in Hamburg. The Hanseatic city is currently number 4 of the most popular Set for the British in Germany.
Second place in the international search for a challenge at Alster and Elbe is the United States with around seven percent. This is followed by France (6 percent) and the Netherlands (5 percent).
The latter two states also play a key role at Hamburg's largest employer, Airbus Operations GmbH. The Significance from Airbus for Hamburg is also reflected in the search queries. Hamburgers care clear more often for a job at the aircraft manufacturer than the rest of the republic.
Professions are also lost more often than average Marketing, media and culture wanted. The Hanseatic city seems to be particularly attractive for graphic designers and marketing managers. Compared to the national average, jobs in the music industry and in theaters are also searched for more often than average.
Looking at the popularity of Hamburg within Germany, the image of a classic commuter destination is shown. Most inland search queries come from the direct neighboring countries north and south of the Elbe. While approximately 69 percent of the search requests for Hamburg come from the Hansestadt itself, ten percent of those interested come from Schleswig-Holstein and about seven percent from Lower Saxony.
The eternal rival Bremen represents only one percent of the requests. The interest in Hamburg seems to be low there - but it may be that some searches have been wrongly assigned to the surrounding area. As a former citizen of Hamburg, I'm allowed to poke something at least a bit: Bremen is simply not that big.
The job market especially for Developer was discussed a lot, for example, in the course of the massive cuts at Jimdo. The dismissed Employees at the Hamburg start-up come from many areas. But above all the developers among them should have little difficulty finding accommodation elsewhere. Not only was a real competition for the former employees started on Twitter under the hashtag #jimdoquit, the job market for developers of all stripes is also very stable and at a high level in the Hanseatic city.
According to our data, most developer positions can currently be found at Ferchau Engineering, the Otto Group, Goodgame, Surf Media and Yelp.

North Rhine-Westphalia is the most populous federal state and a region whose residents are extremely attached to their homeland. Mockers could even claim that North Rhine-Westphalia is the home of the philistines.
Eye-catching when looking at the labor market data from North Rhine-Westphalia: Rheinländer and Westphalia are particularly fond of looking for jobs within their home country and prefer classical training professions. This image is used to draw at least Indeed data.
Around 90 per cent of all search-queries for Indeed in Nordrhein-Westfalen. Particularly attractive for applicants are the eternal Rhineland rivals Cologne and Düsseldorf. In both cities, however, applicants also find the best prerequisites for job search: the two cities also list the vacancies.
For our regional analyzes, we looked at: In which federal states, which search terms are clearly above the federal average. In this kind of evaluation, one or other interesting finding is hidden about the local labor market.
At the top of the list of jobs most frequently searched for are the People between the Rhine and Weser the professions of tax clerk, paralegal, machine operator, industrial clerk and office clerk. So, traditional apprenticeships.
If you compare the numbers, it becomes clear light problematic image for companies looking for qualified personnel in Cologne or Düsseldorf. In both cities, the ratio between vacancies and job searches is very low. For comparison: In Recklinghausen there are three times as many applicants for one position. No wonder given the very different labor market figures in the Ruhr area and the Rhineland.
For companies that are urgently looking for qualified personnel - such as in Cologne and Düsseldorf - the free one is available Choice of the job location for candidates might be a good tip. If the position allows, home office and remoteSolutions be agreed. This saves the employee commuting costs and, above all, a lot of time.
Who is not fully on the fixed Workplace If you want to do without, you can agree on fixed home office days, or, for example, include commuting times on the train in your working hours. Because with 300.000 kilometers of traffic jams a year in NRW, a lot of working time is lost on the road.
90 percent of German job searches in North-Rhine Westphalia come from North Rhine-Westphalia - people at the Rhine and Ruhr are obviously happy where they are. Most of the interest in a place in NRW is the far less homeland-based Hesse, of which only 75 per cent in its own state, but just under seven per cent in NRW. They are closely followed by Lower Saxony and Baden-Württemberg.
From abroad, less than three per cent of the job seekers in NRW, and most of them, little surprising, come from the Netherlands. Our neighbors in the west close on the foot are the British. Here it will be interesting to observe the effects of Brexit in the coming weeks.
Finally, we want to take a look to the east and look at Saxony with the metropolitan regions of Dresden and Leipzig. Particularly popular there: DHL and BMW, as well as jobs as occupational therapists and in retail.
Particularly popular as an employer compared to the rest of Germany are in Saxony DHL and BMW. The logistics company is more than 4,5 times more popular than in the federal section. Above all, DHL lures with its Global Logistics Hub at Leipzig / Halle Airport.
BMW has a similar radiance. At its plant in Leipzig, the company primarily produces the smaller models of the 1 and 2 series as well as the i3 and i8 electric vehicles. This ensures that the Bavarian automobile manufacturer is five times more popular in Saxony than in other federal states.
The above-average popular occupations in Saxony paint an interesting picture between Technology and healthcare. In the top 5 of the above-average popular jobs in a national comparison, there are three professions from the healthcare sector - jobs as an occupational therapist are particularly popular in Saxony.
The majority of job seekers in Saxony come from Saxony, as in most of the federal states. However, capital cities are also interested in vacancies in the Free State, after all, 7,2% of searches in the state come from Berlin. Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt and Bavaria also find roles in Saxony exciting.
Knapp 18 percent of search queries from abroad for jobs in Saxony comes from the Czech Republic. The proximity to the homeland and the better merit chances make Saxony an ideal place to work. The same is true for Poland, which is second with 15 percent.
Britain is already the third largest country in the world market, accounting for around seven percent. Saxony also benefits here from the general trend following the Brexit vote. To a good nine percent nationwide the search requests from the island have risen.
Two cities dominate the search for a job in Saxony - together, Leipzig and Dresden account for 50% of job search in the state. This is not surprising and confirms the results from other federal states. Big cities attract and provide most jobs, so they usually come first.
